“Too damn right you will.” He gives me a smile as he heads to my office to help Toshi.
I move toward Echo’s desk, where E.A.’s talking on the phone.
“You think Seth is helping Leanne?” E.A. asks, making me raise an eyebrow.
I hit the button for speakerphone, and he puts the receiver down.
“… It sounds crazy, I know, but Seth doesn’t just leave the apartment like this.”
“Secret, hey, you’re on speaker with E.A. and Spencer now. Can you give us Seth’s number? We need to go get Leanne out of that building before anything can happen to her.”
“Sure,” she says. “Do you have a pen, or whatever?”
I take my cell out and get ready to type the number in. “Ready.”
She reads it out and I type it in.
“Got it. Thanks.”
“Just let me know when Leanne’s okay.”
“We will. I promise.”
She hangs up and I look at E.A.
“If Seth’s doing this with her, she’s definitely at Anchor West.”
“Let’s hope he has backup,” E.A. says.
“Echo, Toshi, we’re leaving! Stay here and call us if you hear from Leanne.”
I call Seth’s number as we walk into the entrance hall.
E.A. unlocks the door while I wait for Seth to pick up the phone.
“I wondered when I’d hear from you guys,” Seth mutters. “Took you long enough.”
“Before I lose any more of my patience, you’d better explain what’s going on, and start with where exactly Leanne is and why you let her do this.”
“Firstly, there’s no letting that woman do anything. She’s a force of fucking nature. She can’t be stopped when she decides what she’s doing.”
“I’m seriously losing the last of my fucking patience, Seth.”
“She’s in there, sure. I couldn’t talk her out of that. So, I sent someone in with her.”
“Who?” I ask.
“Have you heard of Victor Hayes?”
“The soldier of fortune, Victor Hayes?”
“That’s the one. He brought The Beast with him. Big guy, kind of looks like a horror movie psychopath. We’re hanging out in the building’s parking lot, because we’ve heard a rumor about how Harlan West transfers his victims to those nasty little auctions we’ve all heard about.”
“Do you have a way to find out what’s going on inside the building? Is Leanne safe?”
“She’s doing fine. Victor’s already set up a bunch of cameras inside. There’s one at her desk, where she’s been pretending to work for the last half hour.”
“Okay. You said you’re in the parking lot? We’re coming to meet you.”
