“Corbin will meet you at the Sunken Skull. Thirty minutes.”

“What?” Echo asks. “Did I miss something? I feel like I don’t know half those words you just said, Seth.”

Seth frowns at him, and then looks at me. “You can tell him.”

He moves back into Spencer’s office.

Echo gives me an expectant look. “Well?”

“I’m going to speak to Harlan before we drop him off at the police station later.”

“You’re going to what?” he blurts, making everyone look.

Leanne and Spencer move toward us, clearly wondering what’s going on.

I look over at them. “I’m going to speak to Harlan. I need to know why he did what he did.”

“Oh, E.A.,” Leanne murmurs, her gaze softening.

“That seems risky,” Spencer says. “I’m the lead Alpha now, remember?”

“Suddenly, I’m starting to regret that decision,” I mutter.

“Well, you shouldn’t,” Leanne says. “Because he isn’t going to tell you not to go.”

“I’m not?” Spencer asks. “Would you like to tell me what I’m going to say?”

Echo laughs. “I knew this was going to happen.”

“You knew what was going to happen?” Leanne asks.

“This,” Echo says, waving his hands between Spencer and I. “You two don’t know how not to argue.”

“I wasn’t going to tell him not to go,” Spencer says, giving Echo a smirk. “So, don’t act like a know-it-all.”

“Then, what were you about to say?” I ask him.

“I was going to tell you that your pack should be with you,” Spencer says. “No more lone burden carrying, remember?”

I can’t help the smile that forms on my lips. “I remember.”

“So, we’re all going?” Echo asks, sounding shocked.

Spencer nods. “As soon as Toshi’s done …”

Toshi appears beside me. “Seth is finishing my work so we can get the fuck out of here before you guys make him puke. What did I miss?”

Chapter One Hundred Nine

Echo

A trip out of the office is a rare treat, even if it is to go to a dive bar to meet an infamous vigilante so we can go grill the monster who killed E.A.’s mum. Okay, that might be sarcasm, but honestly walking around together as a pack like this feels pretty good.

It’s a nice, brisk night, and I was smart enough to ask Toshi for a hoody before we left.

E.A. mentioned I might want to be wearing something with sleeves since this place we’re headed to is a real dump. So, of course, I asked Toshi for his stuff because mine is not made to withstand dive bars.

“The Sunken Skull,” I murmur. “It sounds like a shipwreck.”
