My jeans grew uncomfortably tight, so I turned back toward the horses to adjust them.

Dammit, this was not what I needed right now.

My phone buzzed and I pulled it out of my pocket, wanting any distraction I could get.

“What?”

“Oh hey, brother, nice to talk to you too,” Walker said, his voice lazy.

I grunted. “Sorry.”

“No worries. How’s it going?”

“Fine.”

He waited a moment, probably thinking I’d elaborate, but I didn’t feel much like doing that.

“That’s it?”

“Mmhmm.”

“Gray, you’re on a mountain with some pretty famous people. Some hot famous people. And it’s just ‘fine’?”

I scowled. So he thought she was hot too, huh?

“It’s fine. The trek was fine. We didn’t go far, I just brought them up here to Beverly Falls.”

“Ah, good thinking. Nicest views for the least amount of work.”

“Mmhmm.”

“Right. Well, I want to make sure you take care of them and they have a great time. If we can get an endorsement from Eryn Blake or Skylar Hill, do you know what that could do for the ranch? We could expand and I could finally start?—“

“Is that why you called me right now? We’ve talked about this.”

His voice grew uncharacteristically stern. “Yeah, you’ve said your piece, about a thousand times. But I’m not givin’ up on this, Gray. So you’re either gonna hear me out—I mean really hear me out—or I’m gonna keep annoying you about it at every inopportune time.”

“Dammit Walk, I don’t have time for this right now.”

In fact, I had all the time in the world, as I turned to watch the group and found them splashing and swimming and not at all ready to get out of the water. I watched as Eryn climbed up one of the rocks, my heart rate increasing. She better know what she’s doing. Fuck, she could get hurt. I strode forward, all thoughts of my brother forgotten.

“Hey!”

I was still too far away for my voice to carry and a moment later, she dove gracefully into the plunge pool below.

I heaved in a breath as her head popped up from the water and she wore a damn magnificent smile.

“Gray? You still there?”

I’d forgotten I was on the phone. I’d forgotten my own damn name for a second.

I pulled the phone back up to my ear.

“Yeah, fine, we’ll talk about it later. I gotta go.”

“Alright, but I’m holding you to?—“

I pressed the ‘end call’ button and pocketed my phone. Clearly, Eryn couldn’t be trusted to keep herself safe. It was only right that I join them to keep a proper eye on things.
