I let out a sigh knowing she’s right. “When you are finished school, you can move here,” I tell her.

“Yeah right. The second I finish school, my dad wants me to move back home and help him take over the family business,” she says before rolling her eyes. I can’t help but do the same.

Her family owns a diner, but Christina can’t cook anything. I had to personally ban her from the kitchen. Her father knows that which is why he sent her to school to get her business degree in accounting so she could at least do books and hire someone for the kitchen when her father was ready to retire.

That’s not what she wants to do with her life though. She loves doing makeup and she’s really good at it. She has a small following online, but her father thinks it’s a waste of time. The only real freedom she has ever had was being sent away to school.

I really hope she finds a way to have the happiness she deserves.

“You can move in with us,” I tell her as we walk to the vehicle.

She shakes her head. “You know I can’t do that. I need to do my duty.”

I sigh but don’t say anything. She doesn’t want to disappoint her dad. She’s a daddy’s girl and lives to make him happy but, I can’t help but wonder, at what cost?

“Alright, I will let it go for now. You can help me pick out a dress and whatever else for this event,” I say.

She smiles wide. Whereas I don’t care to shop, Christina loves it. She could spend all day in the mall and, at the end of the day, I will still have to practically drag her out.

She gets me to try on a few dresses, but none of them feel right. I’m starting to feel discouraged.

“Oh, sweetie, that isn’t your colour,” a voice says, causing me to jump. I turn around to see a man standing there who honestly has better style than I could ever dream of.

“I know. My friend picked it out,” I tell him while looking in the mirror at myself wearing the awful green dress that Christina picked out.

“I think this would look so much better on you,” he says, holding up a dress with multiple shades of purple. It is an A-line sweetheart neckline dress that has sequins going down it. There is a layer of tulle to make it look very beautiful.

“I don’t know if I could pull that off,” I tell him while shaking my head. Christina chooses that moment to walk over.

“Oh, honey, you definitely got the rack and ass to pull this dress off. Just trust me,” he says with a wink. At least I don’t get any creepy vibes from him. He looks like he honestly just wants to help.

Christina looks at him for a moment before turning her gaze to the dress with her mouth falling open. “Oh, Aubrey, you have to try that on. That would absolutely stun everyone, including Gabe, at the charity event!”

I grumble, but reach out for the dress. The guy looks at me tilting his head. “Aubrey? Are you looking for a dress for the hospital’s charity event next weekend?”

I pull back and narrow my eyes at him. “Yes. How do you know that?” I ask warily.

“I’m here just getting my tux. My bosses are making me go, which I don’t mind; plenty of eye candy if you ask me. Though I couldn’t normally afford this place; they are paying for it since I’ll be expected to show up at many functions with them,” he says, rambling.

“That didn’t answer my question,” I say with a laugh.

“Right, how silly of me. My bosses I believe are your brothers. Well, one is your man. They talk about you all the time, but I always seem to be out on an errand whenever you pop on by,” he says with a smile.

My mouth drops open at his words. “Oh, you’re the new assistant.”

“I sure am. Name’s Greg. Now that I know who you are, you need to go try this on asap. Your man won’t know what hit him when he sees you in it,” he says while handing me the dress again.

I head back into the change room to switch dresses. When I put it on, I notice the crossing of the straps in the back. Most of the back is exposed.

When I looked at myself in the mirror, I gasp.

He was right. This is the dress.

When I walk out of the change room, both of their mouths drop open.

“Shit girl, you look hot,” Christina says and makes at twirling motion with her finger. I slowly turn so they can see all of the dress.

“Damn, you are making me wish I swung your way,” Greg says while fanning himself dramatically.
