I can’t think of anyone who would want to harm Aubrey. She doesn’t have any enemies. The only person in her life that I could think of is that ex-boyfriend she left before we got together. I remember her telling me that he was only using her to get to her brothers.

That’s where I need to start. Just as soon as I know she’s okay.

When the doctors finally come out, they tell us that it’s going to take awhile but, eventually, she’s going to be fine. She will have some recovery ahead of her, her throat and mouth are red and raw, but she is intubated and has a tube down her throat helping her breathe. She will be short of breath for some time. Her lungs will take time to heal. Her voice will be different for awhile due to damage and, right now, she’s experiencing confusion and a massive headache. They will be admitting her into the hospital for observation and recovery.

Thankfully, the flames hadn’t reached her room by the time they got her. Some neighbours saw the first flame and called the fire department right away.

I head into the room to see Aubrey, and my eyes well up at the sight of her.

She looks so fragile. She’s sleeping. The doctor said she would need the rest.

“Baby, I’m so sorry this happened to you. I promise you that I will find out who did this, and I will make them pay,” I whisper softly into her ear before kissing her head. I feel a squeeze on my hand, but then I move to give her family time to see her.

I wait in the hallway. I don’t want to leave her, but I also need to know who did this.

Her brothers come out of the room. “We need to start looking for these fuckers,” Chase says angrily, and I nod my head in agreement.

“I want to find them too, but I don’t want to leave her,” I tell them, feeling torn.

“We will stay with her, so she knows you didn’t just leave her here. All of you need to find who did this to my baby girl, and why,” Mitch says.

“You guys do what you do best,” Susan says, taking a moment to look at each of us in the eye.

“Protect this family,” she finishes saying with a harder tone.

I look back at my woman through the crack in the door.

Some people think the Kingsleys are this normal, nice, rich family; but there is a side to them that no one sees. They will protect their family at any cost. I think that’s why they never had a problem with Hudson becoming an MC member. His club lives by their members and family. They have some of the same values that the Kingsleys do when it comes to that.

“We need to call Hudson,” Dylan says, looking scared to do just that.

“Already tried, but there was no answer. We will try again later. Right now, we have a job to do,” Theo says.

We say our goodbyes to their parents, and I whisper words to my woman again before we take off to the office to begin our search for these fuckers.

We will find them.

Chapter Fourteen

Gabe

We spend hours going through footage of all the surrounding houses.

I decide to look into Aubrey’s ex. “I’m going to go see Kalen,” I tell Theo and Nolan.

“We are going with you,” they both say at the same time.

I nod my head and stand up. I found his address and all the places he likes to hang out.

Some of the methods I used to track him are not exactly legal, but I will do anything for my woman.

We get our private plan ready and head out. That will be the fastest way to get there.

It doesn’t take very long to get there. I am anxious. I am really hoping that this leads to something.

Otherwise, I don’t know who would want to hurt Aubrey.

“Let’s check his apartment first,” Theo says.
