She can pretend she can’t stand me but we both know what’s really simmering behind those dark brown eyes of hers. So am I afraid she’ll turn down my invite to the party?

Hell no.

But I am a tad bit worried someone might beat me to it.

Which is why I need to ask her asap.

Like right now.

I check the time on my phone. Shit. It’s already after ten and I’m pretty sure it’s past her bedtime even if it is a Friday night.

Who cares? This is important.

Without a second thought, I swing by the kitchen for a couple more shots, and then I walk out of the frat house, with confidence and determination in every step.

Considering we live in the same apartment building, with her apartment being one floor below mine, it’s easy to pay her a little visit simply on my way home.

Time to secure my date.

The door swims before me. I run my hand down my face and shake my head but it doesn’t help. Leaning one arm against the wall, I take a few deep breaths until the spins subside. Then I knock on the door and wait.

No answer.

I knock again and wait some more.

Still nothing.

Maybe they’re out partying and Everleigh’s already asleep. I try one more time before I dig out my phone. Shit, do I even have her number? I scan my phone and find the contact Ev. I don’t know if it’s her but I text the number anyway and wait.

Fuck this is stupid. I look like a drunk schmuck just standing here in the middle of the hallway. What am I doing? I’m an idiot.

I don’t go chasing down girls. They chase me.

Yet here I am standing outside of a chick’s door like I’m desperate or some shit. Fuck this.

I stumble back towards the stairs when I hear the door open behind me. I spin around so fast I almost fall on my ass but catch myself against the wall and play it off cool as I regain my balance.

Everleigh watches me from where she stands in the doorway in a cute pj set with cats all over it, her hair in pigtail braids. I don’t miss the half smirk that quickly turns to a scowl when her eyes meet mine.

“What the hell do you want, Landon? You’re drunk and I was in bed.”

“Can I join you?” I wink, a sexy grin playing on my lips. I know this flirty shit pisses her off- exactly why I do it.

Sure enough, her scowl deepens and her eyes narrow into slits. She crosses her arms over her chest and takes a step back into her apartment. She starts to close the door but I throw my arm out. “Wait! I was kidding. Trust me, I don’t want to join you.”

If looks could kill, I’d be dead at her feet. Fuck, a guy can’t win around here. “What’s with the icy stare? I thought you would like that answer better.”

“What the hell do you want Landon? Are you looking for Lennox or Maia or something?”

“No. I texted you, didn’t I?”

“Yeah, at ten thirty at night, drunk as a skunk. That tells me you must want something. When have you ever text me before? That’s right. Never.” She practically spits the words at me.

“Okay, okay. I’m sorry I got you out of bed. But I need to ask you something.”

Her eyes narrow again and she clicks her tongue against the roof of her mouth, her breath coming out in huffs. “I don’t have time for games.”

“It’s not a game. I wanted to ask you to be my date to my fraternity event next Saturday.”
