“Thank you. I’m fine now.”

“But you weren’t, were you?”

“No. I was devastated.”

“How old was he?”

“Twenty-eight.”

“Way too young, and at twenty-seven, you were too young to become a widow.”

“Yes. I begged him not to go on another tour, but he said he had to. I understand, but he had me at home, waiting to start a family. He swore it would be his last one. It was, but not in the way we’d hoped.”

“I’m really sorry, Addison.”

“Thank you. I’m fine now, but it took me over a year to get past it. Work helped with that.”

“I’m sure it was tough. I can’t imagine.”

“We’d only been married three years.”

“That’s tough.” He touched her hand.

“What are the bulls you raise?”

“American Bucking Bull.”

“I see. I never watched it. It looks way too dangerous.”

“It can be.”

“Let me order the pizza.”

Cody listened as she placed the order, then set the phone on the arm of the chair and looked at him.

“It will be here in thirty minutes.”

“Well, I’m glad they deliver.”

“Can we walk around outside? I’d like to see some of your property.”

“Sure. Do you horseback ride?”

“I’ve never been on a horse in my life.”

“Are you afraid of them?”

“I don’t think so. I love horses, it’s just that I’ve never had the opportunity to ride.”

“We’ll have to change that. Since we have a little time, let’s walk to the barn.”

Addison stood. “I’d like that.”

They walked out the back door, down the steps, and across the yard. The heat of the day was still hanging around.

“This heat is teasing us,” Addison said.

“Definitely. It’ll snow soon.” Cody grinned.
