“I’m just teasing, but I meant the hostess. She couldn’t keep her eyes off you.”

He shrugged. “I didn’t notice. I don’t pay attention to other women when I’m on a date. I think that’s a little rude.”

“I’m impressed.”

The hostess returned with their drinks, set them on the table, then headed back to the podium, and a server stopped at their table.

“Hello, my name is Marco, and I’ll be your server. Have you had a chance to decide?”

“I haven’t even looked at the menu,” Cody said as he picked it up and scanned it.

“I’d like the seafood platter,” Addison said, smiling at the server.

Cody set the menu down.

“That sounds good. I’ll have that too.”

The server smiled, then walked into the kitchen.

Cody glanced around. “This is a nice place.”

“It’s very popular. If you want a fancy meal, you come here. For burgers, and meat and three, head for the diner.”

“I liked that burger I had from there.”

“Connie and Owen own the diner and have always had the best burgers in the area.”

“We’ll go there one night, okay?”

Addison smiled. “I’d love it.”

“So, you became a pharmacist because of your parents?”

“I did. I used to work at their pharmacy when I was a teenager. I loved it and knew that’s what I wanted to do.”

“It’s good doing what you love.”

“How did you get into bull riding?”

“Hell, I can’t remember. I’ve always been a fan of professional bull riding. Since I was a young kid. My parents thought I was nuts, but I had my heart set on it. I never dreamed I’d be champion several times over. I’m sure I’m going to miss it, but I won’t miss being thrown off a bull, hitting the ground, and praying I got up in time to not get stepped on.”

“Have you ever?”

“Yes. I had my left arm broken in three places when a bull stepped on it. I also got a broken leg the same way. I know I’m going to pay for it when I get older.”

“Oh, you will. I’ll be filling prescriptions for your aches and pains.”

Cody chuckled. “No doubt there.”

Addison picked up her wine, took a sip, and set the glass down.

“I meant to tell you, you look beautiful tonight,” he murmured, and watched a blush steal into her cheeks.

“Thank you,” she whispered.

“You’re not used to getting compliments, are you?”

She shrugged. “It’s not the compliments, it’s the sincerity of them.”
