He stepped closer, causing her to back away.

“Are you threatening me?”

“No, of course not.”

“Then why do you think I’ll regret this? I don’t. I haven’t regretted breaking up with you since it happened. I moved here to get away from you, and yet somehow you managed to find me. How?”

She shrugged. “I hired a private investigator.”

“Oh, is that the guy you were with at the pharmacy?”

She gasped. “You knew I was there?”

“Of course. That idiot scared Addison and when he came into her store with you, she told me everything. I showed her a picture of you, and she confirmed it was you.” He took a step toward her. “Get off my property or I’ll call the authorities and stay away from Addison. Leave Gwyn. I want nothing to do with you ever again.”

“I can make things right between us. All I wanted was for you to quit that sport, but you chose it over me.”

“You knew all along what I did for a living, and you never had a problem with it because of the money I made. Well, guess what? I make a hell of a lot more now and you’ll never get your hands on any of it. Now, leave.”

She glared at him for a moment before sighing and walking down the steps. When she reached her car, she turned to face him.

“You know where to find me.”

“I don’t want to find you. I don’t love you and I sure as hell don’t need you. Leave Clifton and go back to Helena. Don’t ever come back here again.”

She got into her car, started it, and sped off down the driveway. He watched until she disappeared from sight.

Cody looked over at Levi standing in the barn doorway and walked toward him.

“Everything alright, Cody?”

“I hope so. A woman from my past won’t take no for an answer.”

“Is she gone for good now?”

“I hope so, Levi. She almost ruined everything with Addison.” He shook his head. “She might have succeeded.”

“I doubt that. Addison’s not stupid.”

“She left here angry on Saturday.”

“Just give her some time. She’s a good woman.” Levi nodded before going back inside the barn.

Cody agreed. Addison was a wonderful woman, and he didn’t want to lose her. He was in love with her and just hoped this situation hadn’t driven her away for good.

Addison sat on the couch, with her phone in hand. She was nervous to call him, but she knew she had to apologize for Saturday. If he didn’t want to see her again, it would be no one’s fault but hers.

“I’m scared to talk to him, Lolli. I am in love with him. Kinley was right.” She looked down at the dog playing with the toy Cody had given her and let out a sigh. Finally, she worked up the courage to dial his number and waited anxiously as it rang.

“Addison?”

“I’m so sorry,” she whispered. “And I understand if you don’t want to see me anymore.”

“You do, huh? Well, I accept your apology. And as for not seeing you again, that’s not going to happen, sweetheart.”

“It’s not?”
