“Not unless you want it to.”

“Oh, I don’t. I really don’t. Cody I—”

“What is it?”

“Nothing. Um, can you come over tomorrow night?”

“Why don’t you come here? You can spend the night and we’ll go riding on Wednesday.”

“I’d like that.” She sighed. “Cody...”

“It’s alright, darlin’. We’ll get through this. Actually, I have something to tell you about Gwyn. She stopped by earlier.”

“What?”

“Nothing happened. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow evening. How about I place an order from the diner and you pick it up?”

“Okay. See you then.”

“Yes, ma’am. And Addison, please don’t worry. Everything is fine between us, baby. I promise.”

“Okay.” With a smile on her face, she ended the call.

On Tuesday after work, Addison made a quick stop at the diner to pick up their order before heading to Cody’s place. She parked her car and looked around before grabbing the bag from the passenger seat and climbing up the porch steps. After knocking on the door, she tried to turn the knob but found it locked, so she knocked again.

Cody opened the door, causing Addison to almost choke on her tongue. He stood there with water dripping from his hair onto his shoulders, wearing nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist. She couldn’t help but watch as droplets rolled down his chest and disappeared into the towel.

“I just got out of the shower when I heard you knock. Come in, I’ll get dressed,” he said.

Addison followed him into the kitchen, placing the bag on the counter before wrapping her arms around his waist and kissing him deeply. He pulled away for a moment to stare into her eyes.

“You’re going to get wet,” he whispered.

“I hope so, cowboy,” she replied with a smile.

“Count on it.” He chuckled before lifting her up and carrying her to his bedroom. They would have to reheat their dinner later.

Cody watched as Addison reheated the burgers, fries, and onion rings in the microwave. Once the timer went off, she placed the food on the bar and sat beside Cody.

“Tell me about Gwyn’s visit,” she said before taking a bite of a fry.

Cody sighed and shook his head. “She’s going to be a problem. I can feel it.”

“What happened?”

“She came here to tell me she regrets us breaking up. Claims she didn’t want my money. She even mentioned you, and when I brought up her recent visit to the pharmacy, and questioned who the man with her was, she wouldn’t give me a straight answer. I’m pretty sure he is the private investigator she hired.”

“She must really want you back.”

“Well, I made it clear that it’s not going to happen. I told her to leave, but I don’t trust her. Just please keep an eye out for her. If she shows up at your store again, call me or the sheriff’s department.”

Addison’s eyes widened in surprise. “Do you think she will?”

“It wouldn’t surprise me. But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. I doubt she’ll stick around once it starts getting colder. It feels like fall has arrived today; it’s chilly.”

“It’ll probably snow next week,” Addison replied with a smile.
