Addison handed her a bottle of medicine to fill and said, “Please fill this, I’ll go talk to her.” She walked toward the counter and spotted Gwyn standing alone in the store. Taking a deep breath, Addison approached her with crossed arms and a stern expression.

“Do you need help with something?”

With a sly smirk, Gwyn leaned forward and whispered, “I think you and I should have lunch together.”

Addison’s eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. “You really shouldn’t do that.”

Gwyn’s expression turned to a frown. “Do what?”

“Think,” Addison responded coolly. “Obviously, you’re not very good at it. Now please leave my store and do not come in again.”

A fire sparked in Gwyn’s eyes. “Let me tell you something, I will get that man back. I did it before and I can do it again. He doesn’t love you.”

“He doesn’t love you either,” Addison retorted firmly. “For God’s sake, take a hint and leave him alone.”

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” Gwyn sneered.

A surge of frustration rose within Addison. “He would too. Now go before I call the sheriff.”

The two women locked gazes in a tense moment before Gwyn let out an exasperated sigh and stormed out of the store. As soon as she was gone, the tension that had been building in Addison dissipated like air from a pricked balloon. She took a deep breath, relieved that the confrontation was over... for now.

She stepped back behind the counter and made her way to her office, shutting the door behind her. Her hands were trembling as she sat down at her desk. That woman was a menace. She reached into her lab coat pocket and pulled out her phone, taking a deep breath, she called Cody.

“Hey, sweetheart,” he answered.

“Gwyn just came in here,” she said, trying to calm herself.

“Son of a bitch. What did she want?”

Addison recounted the encounter and Gwyn’s angry exit.

“I had a feeling it wasn’t the last time we’d see her. I’m sorry, Addison.”

“It’s not your fault. She’s crazy.”

“Are you okay?”

“My hands are shaking, but I’ll be fine.”

“Do you want me to tell Sam?” Cody asked.

“Not this time. But if she shows up again or causes any more trouble, I’ll let him know. I wish she would just leave us alone.”

“Me too. I’ll try to find out where she’s staying and pay her a visit.”

“The only place she could be is the Dalton Hotel. With the Bur Oak closed for the season and you already checked the B and B, that’s the only other option.”

“Okay, I’ll check it out. How about dinner on Saturday evening?”

“That sounds good. Where should we go?”

“How about Hartland? I’ll have Gray call Grant if I can’t get a reservation.”

“That might be tough with such short notice but call now and then call Gray if needed. I have to get back to work. I had to take a break after dealing with that… woman.”

“Okay, sweetheart. I’ll talk to you later. Bye.”

“Bye.” Addison hung up the phone and took a few more deep breaths, hoping that Gwyn would stay away from her thoughts. She pushed herself out of her chair and returned to work, hoping for a peaceful rest of the day.
