Cody cursed under his breath as he hung up the phone. Gwyn was always causing trouble. He shoved it into his back pocket and decided to head into town, specifically to the Dalton Hotel. Grabbing his hat from its peg and pulling on his coat, he made his way out the door.

He hustled down the steps, jumped into his truck, and drove toward town with determination. He needed to get her out of Clifton and out of his life. As he drove, he called the restaurant but had to call Gray again.

“You’re making a habit of this,” his brother-in-law joked.

“Hey, why don’t you join us?”

“I’ll check with Vivian first, but I’ll make the reservation for Saturday around six.”

“Sounds good, since Addison closes at noon on Saturdays.”

“You’ve been seeing her for quite some time now. Is it getting serious?”

“It could be, but there’s a complication. Gwyn is in Clifton, causing problems.”

“Damn. Talk to Sam about it.”

“If she doesn’t listen to reason, I will. Right now, I’m heading to the Dalton Hotel to see if she’s there. I already checked the bed and breakfast. But come to think of it, she might not even be in Clifton.”

“I’ll check my county just in case. If she’s not at the hotel, let Sam know. He can probably find her faster than you can.”

“Good idea. Alright, I’ll talk to you later. And let me know if you can’t get us into the restaurant.”

“Will do.” Gray disconnected the call but called him back within a few minutes.

“She’s at the motel in Hartland,” Gray said, and gave him the address and room number.

Cody placed his phone on the passenger seat and gripped the steering wheel tightly. He knew Gwyn had to leave and stay away from him and Addison. If she continued to bother them, he feared that Addison would become fed up with their drama and want nothing to do with either of them.

He followed the GPS directions to the hotel Gray had given him. He pulled into the lot and glanced around. It was a nice place. He snorted. Like she’d stay anywhere else. With a heavy sigh, he parked, exited the truck and strode to the door.

Cody knocked on the door of the room. He glanced around before turning to face the door as it unlocked. She opened it and greeted him with a smile.

“Stop bothering Addison,” he growled. “If you have anything to say, say it to me. Quit this fucking shit, Gwyn.”

She leaned against the doorframe, crossed her arms, and smirked at him.

“I’m not doing anything, Cody.”

He was taken aback when she took a step closer, snatched his hat off his head and put it on hers, then wrapped her arms around his neck and tried to kiss him. He quickly pushed her away by placing his hands on her hips before taking back his hat.

“Listen, I don’t know what your game is, but it ends now, or I’ll go to the sheriff.”

“For what?” She laughed.

He crossed his arms and fixed her with a stern stare. “Stalking.”

As soon as she saw that he meant business, her smile faded, and she clenched her fists in anger.

“You wouldn’t dare,” she snarled.

“Try me,” he whispered before turning and striding toward his truck. He got in, started the engine, and drove out of the parking lot without looking back.

Addison greeted a customer with a warm smile and accepted the prescription from her.
