“That’s fine. Can I get you some coffee?”

“If it’s not too much trouble. It’s freezing out there.”

“Yeah, it is. Take off your coat and hat and have a seat.” Cody watched as Levi hung up everything by the door and then took a seat at the bar while Cody brewed some coffee.

Once it was done, Cody placed a cup in front of Levi and made one for himself. Then he sat down on a stool.

“So, how’s that cabin coming along?”

“It’s coming along great. Starting to feel like home now.” Levi grinned.

“I’m glad it’s working out for you.”

“Me too. I really like it here, Cody.”

Cody smiled back. “We like having you here. And the guys seem to like you too, which is always a plus.”

“Definitely. It’s always easier when you get along with your boss.”

“Just so you know, you don’t have to consult me about any decisions regarding the men. They follow your lead, not mine. You’re with them more than I am.”

“I appreciate that. I wasn’t sure if there were any boundaries, but thanks for clarifying. We actually moved the bulls closer to the house earlier when we heard about the storm.”

Cody nodded, impressed by Levi’s competence in running the ranch. They hadn’t had much time to chat, so he was grateful that Levi made an effort to talk to him. All Cody knew about him was his age of forty-two and that he was single.

“Looks like the weather is going to get rough,” Levi said with a grin. “I better start heading back to my cabin before I get snowed in at the barn.”

“Once the weather clears, we’ll see about getting a better road built for you.”

“Appreciate it,” Levi replied as he got up from his seat and headed toward the door, putting on his coat and hat. As he reached for the handle, he looked at Cody. “Oh, I meant to ask if you mind me getting a dog?”

Cody didn’t have any objections; in fact, he was considering getting one himself since the house felt too quiet. After Levi left, Cody sat in the recliner and continued flipping through channels until his phone buzzed with a call from Addison.

“I’m home. It’s so cold out.”

“I’d be warmer if you were here.”

“I would feel hot if you were here.” She chuckled.

“I’m tempted to make the trip.”

“Don’t you dare. It’s dangerous out there. The roads are like a sheet of ice.”

“As long as you made it home safely. Now, tell me why you went to see Gwyn and how you found her.”

“There’s only one hotel in Hartland.”

“I know, but how did you know which room she was in?”

Addison laughed. “I saw the room number in the picture.”

“What picture? What do you mean?”

As he listened, Addison explained how Gwyn and her private investigator set up the photo.

“I could see the room number between your heads.”

“She sent you a photo of us together? Son of a bitch.”
