“Well, at first, I was angry when I saw it, but Kinley pointed out something suspicious about it. I don’t know how they took the photo at that exact time, but I bet that man was outside smoking when you arrived, and it was a perfect opportunity for him.”

“That sneaky bastard. Are you okay?”

“Oh yeah, I had the last word. Well, Kinley did when she told Gwyn she was mentally unstable.”

Cody chuckled. “I think I like Kinley.”

“I love her. She’s not just my technician, she’s also my best friend.”

“It’s important to have friends who have your back. I’m sorry you had to go through that.”

“It’s okay. Maybe now she’ll leave us alone.”

“I’m glad my expression wasn’t any different or else you might have believed her.”

“I don’t think so. If I’d thought about it, I would have realized it was a setup.”

“I hope so, sweetheart. All I want is to be with you.”

“Same here. I hope we can get together this weekend, even if we can’t make it to dinner.”

“That sounds great. We’ll see what Saturday looks like before we make any plans, but I’ll come to you no matter what, even if I have to use a dog sled.”

Addison chuckled. “I don’t think that will be necessary. The roads are usually cleared quickly around here.”

“Okay, we’ll just have to wait and see.”

“Sure thing. Well, I’m going to take a hot shower and grab something to eat. Talk to you later.”

“Sounds good. Talk soon.” He hung up the phone and shook his head. Damn Gwyn, he hoped she would finally leave them alone. She had to know there was nothing between them. He was completely in love with Addison. He just needed to gather up courage and tell her.

As Saturday rolled around, Cody hopped into his truck and made his way to pick up Addison for their dinner plans with Gray and Vivian. After picking her up, they drove to the restaurant together. Cody found a parking spot, turned off the engine, and turned to look at Addison.

“You look absolutely stunning,” he whispered, as he took in her red dress and black suede knee high boots.

“And you always look incredibly handsome.”

He chuckled. “Not much different from any other day.”

“But you always look handsome, and the dress shirt is a nice touch,” she insisted.

“Thank you, darlin’. And you always look beautiful.” His brow furrowed as she blinked rapidly. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” she grumbled. “Well, actually there is something I want to tell you, but I’m not sure how you’ll react.”

“How can I react if you don’t tell me? Please, tell me.” He watched as she took a deep breath, turned toward him in her seat, and locked eyes with him.

“I—” She paused to clear her throat.

“You’re scaring me,” he admitted.

Addison reached across the seat and took his hand in hers.

“I don’t mean to scare you. I’m just trying to gather my courage.”

“Courage? For what?” He prayed she wasn’t about to break up with him.
