“You will not convince her,” Cody said with a chuckle.

Gray chuckled. “Hell, I know.”

He watched Gray walk down the porch steps, put his hand out to Vivian, helped her up the steps, and kissed her. Cody wanted this in his life. He wanted a woman he would love as much as Gray loved Vivian.

They walked into the kitchen, and Cody looked around. The cabinets were crisp white with sleek black hardware, while the countertops were elegant black marble with hints of white swirls. Sliding glass doors led to a porch where a sparkling swimming pool greeted them.

“Grayson...” Vivian’s voice broke through the silence.

“What is it?” Gray asked, turning to face her and then glancing at Cody.

Cody shrugged, causing Gray to furrow his brow in concern.

“Is something wrong, darlin’?”

“No, I just don’t know how to tell you.”

“Tell me what?”

“I didn’t go to the doctor for my blood pressure medicine.”

“Then why?” Gray glanced at Cody again before turning back to Vivian.

Cody crossed his arms and leaned against the counter, observing the exchange.

“I thought I might be pregnant,” Vivian whispered.

Cody watched Gray pull her into an embrace and kiss the top of her head.

“I told you we could adopt if it didn’t happen naturally.”

“We don’t need to adopt.”

“Well, if that’s not what you want... wait. What do you mean?”

“Because I am pregnant.”

Cody chuckled at his brother-in-law’s reaction when he realized what Vivian had said. Gray scooped her up in his arms, hugging and kissing her.

“I think it’s time for me to retreat to my room,” Cody said with a smile.

“No way. We’re going to celebrate. I’ll cook. You two go relax.” Gray cupped Vivian’s face in his hands. “I’m so happy, baby.”

Cody couldn’t help but grin. He knew how much Grayson loved Vivian and was genuinely happy for them. It made him long for a similar love in his own life one day.

Chapter Two

Cody drove to the house, and it just seemed right to him. It might be too big for one person, but he hoped to change that. Thirty-four wasn’t old, so he had plenty of time. He just had to find the right woman.

He gritted his teeth as he thought about Gwyn. Damn that woman. Vivian was right. Gwyn loved his wallet way more than she did him, and he was glad he escaped her. He just wished he hadn’t gone back to her the second time.

“What a fucking idiot you are, Haines,” he muttered.

As he approached the driveway for his new home, he smiled when he saw that the for-sale sign had sold on it.

He drove up to the house and stared at it out the windshield. He was happy that he’d bought it. It was a nice place, and he hoped to have a lot of years here.

After shutting the truck off, he opened the door, stepped out, and looked around. It was late, but he was eager to see it again, knowing it was his.
