Katya shakes her head, huffing under her breath, then Chewy speaks up

“Think about it, Katya, this way we can pool our resources with Wire here and stay a step or two ahead of everyone. If we have any chance of getting rid of the problem, it needs to be done as a team.”

Katya huffs again and takes a long look at Marx before agreeing, “OK. Gimme 12 hours to organize my daughter. Do you have enough room? Because I can guarantee you her father will not let her leave without joining her himself. I can share with Lexi, but Roman will need his own room.”

Marx nods his head, then yells out to a couple of the club girls to get six rooms ready. I raise my eyebrows at him.

“We’re going to bring everyone in, brother. Tombs family, are you against bedding down here on lockdown until we get this shit sorted?” Gus looks at his siblings before shaking his head.

“You sure you can handle Pops? He’ll have to be here too, so we will need another room.” I wrap my arms around Chewy’s waist.

“No need. Chewy won’t need a room. She’ll be with me, right, babe?” I tilt my head to see her face and there’s a wide smile covering it. She doesn’t say a word, just gives two thumbs up. Chuckles go round the room and the tension lifts slightly.

“Right fuckers, sort yourselves out and we’ll plan church with all our guests once they all arrive.”

Tuesday

People are bustling about all over the place, club girls are getting all the rooms ready for lockdown, brothers I’ve never met before are all turning up and Rhodie has been busy introducing us.

So far I’ve met an enormous man named Squeak, which I found out was short for Pip Squeak, so one of those unfunny ironic names and his Ol Lady Tabby, who is the nicest lady I’ve ever met. I also met another couple of brothers who work with Rhodie at the garage, Fox and Nitro. I’ll find out later how they got those names. Both are around 6 foot, lean, but where one is dark, the other is blonde. I’ve been told that they’re best friends and share everything. They gave me a wink and before I could do anything, Rhodie growled “Mine” and told them to fuck off before laughing.

“Those cheeky fuckers! They know you belong to me. They just do that to wind me up,” Rhodie says as he throws his arm over my shoulder, pulling me close.

“That’s too bad. I bet those two would be hot to watch together,” I say, smirking up at him. He looks at me for a moment before a slow smile covers his face.

“Do you enjoy watching?” I nod up at him. “Fuck, I’m lucky you’re such a dirty girl”. He dips his head and slams his lips on mine, thrusting his tongue past my lips in a steamy, and yet far too brief kiss. Sheesh, if this is how he gets when I let slip a little detail like that, I really need to chat to him about some of the other ideas I’ve had.

I’ve had a varied sexual history, however, it was always with strangers through the club. Being with Rhodie means we can learn from each other and build our experiences as we go. There are things I want to do with him I’ve never done before.

I wonder if he’s open to butt stuff? His butt specifically. I turn to ask him, but then notice Katya and her family walking into the common room. Her ex-husband Roman looks exactly like the photo I saw of him when Wire and I were doing background checks. He’s tall, over 6 feet, with black hair and the darkest eyes I’ve ever seen on a guy so pale. He exudes danger, but also an odd air of elegance. With him are three guys and I’m guessing his and Katya’s daughter. She has black straight hair down to her waist and dark eyes, just like her father. Like her father, she also exudes danger, which I find interesting. She looks me dead in the eye, squints a little, and then gives me a little nod. I’m not sure what passed between us, but I have a feeling she may not be as harmless as an 18-year-old should be. I see Marx come stomping out of his office in his big black boots before coming to a stop in front of the group.

“I’m Marx, the Pres here. I know this is a pain in the ass for you, but because of circumstances, I felt that this is the best call to keep our people safe. I hope you agree.” He shakes Roman’s hand and gives him a steely look, one I imagine he used on his team regularly when he was in the military. Roman gives it back before a grin spreads across his face, transforming his features dramatically.

“Roman. Thank you for the invitation. My home has been under surveillance and when Katya informed me of her history with your brother, your involvement in her issue, and your request, I agreed with her it would be best to move our daughter here. However, please don’t take my willingness as a sign of weakness. Sometimes, where there is a mutual enemy, the intelligent thing to do would be to pool resources. So, consider us allies, and hopefully in the future, friends. The Bartashev Bratva is at your disposal.”

Marx gives him a curt nod.

“After you settle in, I’d like you to join us and we can go over what we know. This here -” Marx turns to indicate to my brothers and me “-is the Tombs family. They run a high-level security business and have been working with us from the beginning as they also have a hatred for Kraykowski.” Roman’s brow raises at this knowledge. He then nods at us one at a time before indicating his people.

“You know Katya already. This is our daughter, Lexi.” The dark-haired girl moves forward. She looks around the room with a stoic face, making eye contact with everyone, not giving anything away until she reaches Rider, where she gives a small smirk.

“This is my husband Sasha”. Roman indicates the tall, tanned blonde man behind him. You can almost hear the record scratch. The MC brothers’ eyes are wide and yet you can tell they’re trying not to let their surprise show.

“Holy shit, that is unexpected.” Pop’s voice booms out. I roll my lips between my teeth so as not to laugh whilst Gus splutters and apologizes for Pops.

“Not to worry, this happens to us all the time.” Roman waves his elegant hand through the air.

“He loves the reaction,” Sasha adds whilst rolling his eyes at his husband.

After that, any tension that was in the room has subsided and Roman introduces his two men who will be with him for security, as it’s what’s expected of the Pakhan. I watch as their eyes scan the room, landing on me for a moment too long before moving on. They must have gotten eyes for Christmas. Roman claps his hands.

“Why don’t we get down to business now, go over what we all know? Men, take our bags and get us settled in. Sasha, I’d like to join us.” Marx nods once and then indicates a seat at the largest table in the common room. Rhodie seats me next to him and then hooks his foot around my chair leg to drag me closer. Roman’s husband notices this from his seat beside me and gives me a small grin before whispering,

“Ah, the alpha male in his natural habitat. My husband will be happy here”. He gives me a wink and a smile and we sit whilst the men all make their presentations. Marx and Gus tag team what they know, whilst Roman sits quietly listening, his eyes darting around the room, taking in everything so far. Lexi stands as sentinel beside her father and it’s uncanny how alike they are. She seems to have inherited nothing of her mother that I can see thus far. Once Marx and Gus have finished, Katya and I share what we’ve found, which at this point is the deep dive stuff into his illegal dealings and his offshore accounts that are clearly being funded by Katya’s birth father, Nikolai Ushakov.

As we finish speaking, Roman leans back in his chair and interlaces his fingers over his stomach. He looks around the room, taking in each person before finally resting his gaze on me. I stare hard at the top of his nose, refusing to back down.

“Interesting,” he says, a small smile playing at the edge of his lips. “Very interesting indeed.”
