I glared at him. “You told them what?”

Hudson shrugged as his reddish brown hair glinted in the sun. “That you wouldn’t be in the mood for company on your little vacation.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “Vacation? And what makes you think I’m not staying?”

Brody held up his hands. “We come in peace.”

I quirked an eyebrow. “You sure about that? Levi looks like he wants to take my head off my shoulders with his bare teeth and Hudson is using his jokes to be a dick like always.”

Hudson growled. “I am not.”

I pointed at him. “And yet, your tone of voice says otherwise.”

“Okay, okay, okay,” Brody said as he placed his hands on my shoulders, “we just came by because I sensed you were finally in town. I take it you’ve spoken with Elias?”

“Unfortunately,” I spat.

He turned me around and led me into the house. “Then, let’s get to talking. I know this is awkward for all of us, so we might as well iron things out before we take anything to the pack. We’ll have to form a united front in order for anyone to accept this.”

I pulled away from his touch and walked back into the kitchen. “I’m not here to stay. I’m just here to get this over with so I can put it all behind me. I promised Elias that I’d journey into Bend just to make sure I never wanted to come back here, and you guys are already solidifying the fact that I’m making the right decision.”

A low growl resounded behind me, and when I turned around, I saw Levi gnashing his teeth together.

Which only made me grin. “Does that piss you off?”

His nostrils flared. “We aren’t disposable.”

I shrugged. “Neither am I, despite the fact that my father saw me as such.”

"Your father loved you more than anything on this planet,” Dean growled.

“Well, could have fooled me,” I spat as I stood my ground in front of him.

“Enough!” Brody exclaimed.

I held my head high with pride as my father’s words echoed off the corners of my mind. Always give them hell. Always show them who’s boss. Always stand up for yourself.

“Fine,” I said flatly before I drew in a deep breath, “let’s get this over with.”

And as I stood there in the middle of the kitchen with my father’s dirty-ass dishes in the sink behind me, I readied myself for a fight.

Because I knew they wouldn’t let me leave without one.

LEVI

Come on, just one appearance.

“Get this over with?” I growled.

“Levi,” Dean warned.

I shot the pansy a look. “Don’t you fucking dare.”

And when Raven snickered, I almost lost myself in my anger. “I see you turned into the protector, Levi. Doesn’t shock me. You were always overstepping your boundaries to make sure no one got hurt.”

The blind rage that overcame me blanketed my conscious mind. With the full force of my wolf percolating in my veins, I smelled her before I registered her breath pulsing against my lips. I towered over her by at least six inches, but the eyes I gazed down into were just as determined and filled with fury as I had once remembered them.
