“And I see you don’t give a shit about anyone but yourself,” I glowered.

“Levi,” Brody barked.

“Shut the fuck up!” I exclaimed.

A pair of hands landed on me, but I ripped away from them. Get this over with? Who in the absolute fuck did Raven think she was? Her father’s death had been hard on the entire pack. Those of us that grieved his absence were lost without guidance. Without a shining light to point us in the right direction. And while I had no issues with Dean being interim alpha until someone stepped up to rightfully claim the position, we all knew he wasn’t cut out for the title.

Then again, neither was Raven.

“Your father might have wanted you in this position,” I growled, “but that doesn’t mean you’re right for it. That doesn’t mean you have the leadership skills for it. That doesn’t mean this pack is simply going to bow down and take your shit.”

Raven shrugged. “Good. Because I don’t intend on taking the position of alpha.”

My snarl had practically become part of my face. “Good.”

“Wait, what?” Brody asked.

Raven’s eyes widened. “Seriously? You thought I was leaving while still being alpha? I’m only here to get Elias off my back. Once you guys do your little dance that he’s commanded you to do like the good puppies you are—”

My wolf took complete control over me as I reached my hand out and wrapped it around her throat. “Call us puppies one more time.”

“Levi!” Dean exclaimed.

The second he ripped me backward, it shocked me out of my anger. I drew in a few panting breaths through my nose as I looked down at my hand, still trembling from my touch against her skin. I felt the magic pulsing within her. But as she stood in front of me, it looked as if she had no clue what she truly was. I squeezed my fist closed and tucked it into the pocket of my jeans. I turned my back to the incessant woman that had formed from the innocent little girl that I remembered in my dreams.

And as I straightened my back, guilt flooded my system.

“Just leave us alone. You’re good at that,” I said.

But it seemed as if Raven already came ready for a fight. “Funny. Since I never heard from my father once after I left, I’d think that he was good at that.”

I whipped around and pinned her with a look. “You take that back.”

She grinned. “Never. Not once did I hear from him. No phone calls. No visits. No happy birthdays. No Christmases. No presents. Nothing. If I’m good at being absent, it’s because he taught me.”

“That’s it!” I let out a long growl that no longer sounded human.

“Whoa, no, no, no!” Brody yelled.

“Levi, you’re letting your wolf get to you,” Hudson said.

“Calm the fuck down. You’ve got to breathe,” Dean practically pleaded.

Even as the guys laid hands on me, wrapping me up and trying to keep me from charging the smirking girl, all I wanted was to snatch that goddamn smile right off her fucking lips. If she had the gall to instigate, then she better have the fucking confidence to take whatever punishment was fit for bringing down upon her head.

“Being alpha isn’t something you can just brush off!” I yelled.

Raven shrugged. “Watch me.”

I tossed the guys off me as if they were nothing but rag dolls. “Why don’t you step up and take control, then? Huh? Instead of walking away and being a scared little bitch, why don’t you step up and do what you believe your father never could, huh? You think he was such a terrible alpha? Then, shove it in his dead fucking face and show him you can be better than that. Or do you not want to be better than him?”

She lunged at me, getting back into my face. “I will always be better than him. Always.”

I smirked. “Not when you’re brushing off something like this. You’ve been named alpha of the Ironcrest Pack. That’s a big fucking deal, and by walking away, the only thing you do is solidify just how much of a little bitch you are.”

She shoved me in my chest. “You don’t get to call me a bitch.”

“Oh, so the little girl doesn’t like being called names? I see how that is.”
