A tingle rushed down my spine. A tingle that only came with magic as it filtered through the air. I kept my eyes on his footprints, following them as he weaved in and out of the woods. His scent had all but disappeared. His footprints were already fading back into the mud, as if being erased by the wind itself. Every time the wind kicked up, that shiver grew thicker down my spine, until my muscles jumped and stopped me in my tracks every single fucking time.

The magic was all wrong.

“Brody!” I exclaimed.

The wind wrapped around me, making it harder for me to press onward.

“Brody!” I roared.

And when I didn’t hear him respond, I closed my eyes and allowed my wolf to claw at my skin from beneath the surface.

Brody, can you hear me? You’re in danger. The bears are planning something.

I reached out to him, but it was almost as if my words had slammed into a wall. A resounding shiver ricocheted through every bone and every muscle of my body, and as I tried to take a step forward the wind grew heavier than ever. It damn near knocked me off my fucking feet, it was so powerful. Yet, as I looked toward the sky, I saw the clear, crisp, blue color of a clear day peeking through the canopy of the trees.

“Wind without a storm,” I said flatly.

I wanted to test a theory, so I turned back toward the pack. Immediately, as I turned in a southward direction, the wind started to calm down. I whipped back around, turning my body northward and took a big lunge forward. However, a gust of wind so great and so powerful wrapped around my leg and took me to my fucking back.

I had to get back to the pack.

I had to warn them that there was bear magic creeping into our woods.

And I had to find some way to protect Raven long enough to educate her on the shitshow brewing in our woods.

RAVEN

“Jesus, Levi. This soup is incredible.”

His chuckle sent waves of warmth throughout my soul. “Told you it was my specialty.”

I slurped the decadent, creamy soup off the spoon. “Sorry. It’s just… ugh. So good. I’ve never had soup for breakfast before, but I think I may just start making it a habit.”

He sat in front of me, watching my every move. “Don’t be sorry. To me? Those sounds are compliments to the chef.”

I groaned as I took in another mouth full of soup. “What did you put in this again?”

“Some heavy cream, a bit of cheese. A lot of venison, but it’s shredded up fine so that it blends in nicely. Some fresh lemon juice and zest—”

“That’s the tanginess I taste.”

He smiled brightly. “That, it is.”

Alpha!

Help us, alpha!

Alpha. Please!

She’s not coming. It’s everyone for themselves.

Help us, alpha!

My baby! My baby boy! No!

Out of nowhere, the voices started. The panicking, fearful, raging voices of the pack. I dropped my spoon and stood to my feet. Levi’s tempered growls filled the space between us. And as I turned toward the front door, I heard thunder rumbling in the distance.
