Dean sighed heavily. “Bring her back, okay?”

I grinned. “You don’t have to worry about that.”

Levi thumbed over his shoulder. “In the meantime, we’re going to help clear the streets back on the main road. There’s a lot of work to be done.”

The idea broke my heart, and it helped me to understand Raven more. She probably looked at all of this chaos and saw it as her fault, as any good, kind, and strong alpha would. It didn’t shock me that this had been her turning point. That this had been the point of no return for her.

My only hope was that the pull between the two of us was enough to make her stay.

“Don’t wait up,” I said as I turned toward the east.

Then, with one last breath of fresh air, I took off.

Feeling my strength gather as my pack fell behind me in the distance.

DEAN

“Dean?”

I registered Levi’s voice, but I couldn’t speak. I was afraid that if I opened my goddamn mouth, I’d the tears that I was forcing back would finally fall on my face. I’d never be able to stop cursing my own name. How could I have let this happen? How the hell had those bears gotten the jump on us again?

“She’s lucky she wasn’t killed, too,” I whispered.

Levi squeezed my shoulder. “What happened wasn’t your fault.”

“What do you mean, it wasn’t my fault!?” I bellowed.

I pulled away from his touch and dug the heels of my hands into my eyes.

“Maybe we should let her go,” I said.

Levi scoffed. “You can’t be serious.”

I drew in a deep, sobering breath. “At least in California or wherever, she’d be safe. Safe from these bears. Safe from whatever the fuck is happening to our pack.”

“Since when are you concerned with just her?”

“Since I admitted my feelings for her and wanting to keep her safe, above all else.”

Levi sighed. “You, too, huh?”

My gaze snapped toward him. “What?”

He shrugged before he leaned back against the tree behind him. “You feel a tug toward her, right?”

I scoffed. “More than a tug. We slept together.”

He grinned. “You lucky bastard.”

“Hey.”

“What? I’m saying you’re lucky. You got to share that kind of moment with her. That kind of passion. All I’ll have is…”

I tilted my head. “Is what, Levi?”

He shook his head. “Just… feelings. Feelings, what ifs, and breakfast soup.”
