“What the fuck was that about?”

“Nothing. Just because that nigga is living foul, you know me better than that.”

“I meant you’re keeping secrets with Lo now.”

“It just isn’t your business.”

“It must be about a woman. The question is, who?” Gi leaned back in his seat, eager to get into my business, but I had shared enough for one day.

“Sonny had all our money and was on time,” I spoke on why I dropped by.

“Good, but I know you didn’t drive over here to tell me that. Wassup?”

“I was in the office earlier, and something is going on that they’re not telling us.”

“What happened?”

“My dad was pissed, arguing with Lucas. And I mean pissed. Everett was livid this morning which rarely happened. The saying cool as a cucumber was made specifically to describe him.

“Everett doesn’t argue.”

“Lucas was supposed to do something and didn’t do it. That led to an argument about all the shit he hadn’t been doing lately.”

“Gambling,” Gi replied, thinking the same thing I was.

Lucas had the same problem when we were younger. Honestly, I didn’t know if it ever really went away. We were so young and naïve that we didn’t think about it more than once. After all, it wasn’t our problem and didn’t directly affect me.

“It’s time for him to go. I love Unc, but he can’t be in charge of shit making bad decisions like that.”

“Stepping down won’t get that monkey off his back. You know it, and I do too.”

“Yeah, I know, but it’s a start,” I reclined in the chair, trying to think of another solution. “Never thought I would see the day spoiled milk becomes your favorite cologne.”

“Watch your mouth talking about my baby,” Gi warned, wearing the same lopsided smirk that appeared whenever Serenity was the topic.

“I ain’t mad at it. You look happier than when you told me Lo was pregnant.”

“And you look a lot more miserable. What the fuck is up?”

My fingers scrubbed my beard, wondering if I looked that bad. It was likely, especially since I couldn’t sleep. No matter how often I washed the sheets, Sky’s scent was still there. I rolled over in the night a few times, looking for her. Sky had my head fucked up in a way I never imagined.

“I was fucking with Sky, but she didn’t want to get attached to something she can’t have,” Gianni paused, likely shocked at my revelation and how he missed it.

“Because she has a kid.”

“You know how that shit goes. Family first, and her having a kid fucks that up.”

“Knock her up. Problem solved,” Gi smirked, hoping to lighten the mood.

“You and Lo have been spending too much time together.”

“I’m fuckin’ with you, but it’s ways around that. Or maybe you’re using that as an excuse because you’re scared.”

“Yeah, scared Sky gon’ have me pussy whipped like you.”

“Only one of us looks pathetic, and that’s you. Your ass won’t be laughing in bed alone tonight while I’m with Lo.”

“Nigga’s fall in love and become all prophetic and shit.”
