“Lo wants to see you.”

“Not right now.”

“You think I’m going in there and telling her that shit. Do it yourself.”

I didn’t want to, but a chuckle escaped at how he feared Hailo. Not because she could physically do shit to him, but because the things she could do would cut deeper than any bruise.

“You’re a real bitch. You know that.”

Gi shrugged his shoulders unbothered. “I’ll let you know if the doctor comes out.”

I nodded before starting down the hallway to Hailo’s room. There was a security guard planted outside of it. We didn’t know where the threat came from, and Gi wasn’t taking any chances. I didn’t blame him for that.

“Lo Diddy.”

“Hey.” She was holding on by a thread herself, so no matter how angry I was, I had to check it, even if for a few minutes.

“How are you holding up?”

“Well, I owe Tyson a thank you, so my day can’t get much worse than that,” she joked, trying to lighten the mood. “I’m fine, but your cousin is dramatic.”

“That’s called love.”

“Gi told me you were about to lose your shit.” I couldn’t put my thoughts or feelings into words, so I shrugged, moving across the room to the chair next to her bed. I’m sure Gi placed it there, scared out of his mind and wondering if Hailo would be okay.

“Lost my shit. I tried to put Lucas through a wall,” I reflected on my actions looking down at my hands.

“I’ve met him, so I can’t say he didn’t deserve it but right now, try to focus on Sky. Does she have any family? She’s only mentioned a sister to me, and I don’t think they’re on good terms after that whole fiasco with Cam.”

“Nobody she’d want to call,” I replied, replaying our conversation. Maybe I should’ve considered her sister or tried to locate her mother, but if Sky didn’t consider them family, then I wasn’t either. I was all she and Cam had for now.

“I should be getting out of here soon. Cam can come home with us until,” Hailo’s words trailed, realizing she didn’t know what to say next.

Until we knew if Sky would survive.

Until we could figure out what was next for Cam if she didn’t.

Until Sky came home.

Until could mean so many different things in this situation.

“I appreciate that, Lo.”

“Of course. That’s what favorites do for each other.”

“Your nigga’s a snitch. You know that.”

“Watch how you talk about my husband,” she warned.

“Impressive. You said that like you mean it,” I poked, thinking back to our first conversation on the patio. Her feelings for Gi were different that night, but they’d come a long way.

“Whatever.”

“You know what you’re going to say to Ty?” I probed, desperately needing to talk about something else.

“Thank you,” she replied in a dumbfounded voice that made me chuckle. “I have to say more than that?”

“Ty ain’t all bad. Trust me, have I steered you wrong yet?”
