“You better have a damn good reason why my brother is tied to a fuckin chair,” Quest demanded, entering the warehouse escorted by Boomer. “Shot and fuckin’ burned.” He seethed once he was close enough to see the dried blood and makeshift bandage on Morgan’s arm.

“Don’t forget the two shooters in your parent's living room.” Tyson chimed in with the cherry on top.

Boomer worked in security and delivered the news to Quest that we had his brother. Quest was much more level-headed than Morgan, but if stupidity was a genetic trait, we had some men pop up at their parent’s house for insurance.

“About as good of a reason for your brother to come for us.” The words casually rolled out my mouth, unbothered, as I ripped the tape off Morgan’s mouth.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Quest grilled.

“Morgan didn’t tell you. My uncle owed him money, and instead of coming to us, he decided to take the matter into his own hands,” Gi replied, filling in the gap. “We’re good to people who are good to us. People who aren’t, well,” he shrugged.

If he could’ve, Quest would’ve taken the gun and shot Morgan himself. It was stupid, but he had to show his allegiance to his brother, so he remained stoic even though his eyes told another story.

“Somebody’s gotta pay for putting my girl in a coma,” I cut to the chase, letting it be known.

“I can’t give you my brother.”

“We already got him,” I smiled, but it wasn’t friendly. “Ten percent of the casino goes directly to my girl’s pocket when it’s up and running,” I suggested. “But for now, I want a million dollars upfront.”

“Ten percent?” Quest shrieked.

“This isn’t a negotiation,” Tyson replied, bored with this conversation. “One call, and we’ll have your whole family wiped the fuck out. This is as generous as it’s going to get. Take the offer so we can all go home.”

“Fuck them, Q!” Morgan seethed, clenching his knee.

I tucked my gun and punched Morgan in the face. His chair flew back, but I didn’t let that stop me from delivering blow after blow. Quest wanted to intervene, but he knew that wouldn't be a wise choice with all the guns aimed at him.

“Y’all not gon’ stop this shit?” Quest blurted out.

“Nigga he had it coming, and quite frankly, you should be thanking me that I talked him off the ledge from putting that nigga six feet under,” Gi replied with his finger behind his ear.

Quest was livid, but he also wasn’t stupid. He was outnumbered and didn’t have a leg to stand on if he decided to go to war. Quest knew it as he kissed his teeth and conceded.

“Thank you.”

“Next time, I need more fuckin’ gratitude in your tone,” Gi taunted.

“Next time?” Tyson reared back before letting out a laugh that made me think twice. “Ain’t gon’ be a next time. Believe that, so think twice before you get any bright ideas. Our parents might’ve wanted peace, but it’s a new regime running shit now, and we ain’t playing fair.” Tyson added.

There were no second chances in this shit, so we couldn’t afford to anyway.

“If I don’t get that money by Friday, I’ll be back. I promise you don’t want that.” I walked out, eager to put this shit behind us.

Tyson tossed me the keys, letting me know he wasn’t driving home. He climbed into the car, sniffing his clothes. “Goddamn flesh stinks.”

“Should’ve let me kill that nigga,” I growled, my voice deep with anger that Morgan was still breathing.

“I can’t front. I thought you were going to,” Gi shared.

“I thought I was, too,” I quickly texted Sky letting her know I was on my way, and pulled out of the parking lot.

We made a pit stop by Toya’s house to pay what we owed her. She accepted the money but clarified that if things didn’t work out with Hailo, she was open to a reunion with Gi. Poor thing would be waiting forever on that. It was ‘til death do them part with Hailo because Gi wasn’t letting up. If she tried, she’d find her ass back on the farm locked up until she changed her mind. That’s how locked in he was when it came to her.

I felt the same about Skylar. I just needed her to stop trying to sabotage what God put together. She didn’t know how to receive love. Thankfully I was patient and didn’t shy away from a challenge.

Chapter Seventeen

After all the drama Lucas and his gambling caused, things slowly returned to normal. Sky and Cam were still at my place, and I preferred to keep it that way. Whenever she mentioned returning to her place, I’d redirect the conversation.
