“Neither is walking in here telling me I’m marrying your son simply because I’m pregnant!”

“I’m sorry if Gianni misled you, but he knew the risks. It’s too late for that now.” Misled was a little harsh. The only place he led me to that night was the hotel, and it wasn’t against my will.

“Get the fuck out!” I yelled, jousting my finger toward the door.

“I’m sorry, I can’t do that or let you leave and run off to God knows where with my grandchild. Now, unless that baby belongs to somebody else, you must come with me.” Ross’s voice was oddly calm as he stood to his feet.

Ross opened the door and shared a brief exchange with the men on the other side. I was relieved until they entered my hotel room, and I grabbed my phone to dial Denim. The big one pried it from my hands and grabbed me. I tried to bite his hand because there was nothing else I could do.

“Be fuckin’ careful. She’s carrying my grandchild,” Ross sneered, which sounded contradictory, considering he ordered them to grab me.

“We’re trying,” he grimaced, likely wanting to say more, but he didn’t challenge Ross. He continued trying to carry out his plan without hurting the baby or me.

“Fuck you!” I yelled, still trying to break from their grasp.

“There’s no way out of this Hailo except out of that door,” Ross informed me, pointing over his shoulder. “For the baby’s sake, calm down and walk out of here,” he reasoned as if he cared about our wellbeing.

I didn’t want to, but it wasn’t the first time I had put someone else’s needs before mine. If Ross was willing to kidnap the woman carrying his grandchild, there was no telling what he would do to me otherwise.

“If they have to drag you out of here, they will,” he added, hoping to sway my decision.

“You can’t drag me out of here! Somebody will call for help,” I stated as a matter of fact.

Ross smiled and leaned in, “Weare the people they call for help, sweetheart. Let’s go,” he replied, and his eyes held the same blank expression as Gianni’s when he left.

I had no idea who I slept with, and that realization prohibited my feet from moving as tears streamed down my face. The nightmare of raising a child with somebody I didn’t know had hit new lows. Before I knew it, the two men were perched on each side of me, carrying me out of the suite while Ross rolled my bags out behind us.

Despite leaving through the service exit, a few people passed by, and sure enough, nobody questioned why two oversized men were walking me out or why I was crying. Everything about this moment screamed power. I didn’t have the resources to outrun them.

They put me in the backseat of a luxury car while I sat between them, unable to get away if I wanted to. The vehicle had a partition which caught me by surprise because it was a feature I assumed was exclusive to limousines.

I tried my hardest to stay awake, fearing for my safety if I didn’t. Exhaustion and pregnancy seemed to go hand in hand because falling asleep had always been a struggle, but lately, I could blink my eyes and fall asleep. That’s exactly what happened, and my eyes fluttered open in confusion, waking up in a bedroom I don’t remember walking in.

There wasn’t much in the room but a tray of fruit and water on the nightstand. Jumping to my feet, I ran for one of the two doors in the room. The first was a bathroom, but there wasn’t anything in the drawers to help me get out of here. I tried the second door, which was locked, but I could hear faint voices on the other side.

“Help! Help! Let me out of here,” I banged on the door, but whoever was on the other side probably worked for Ross. Finally, tired of hearing my fist banging, it opened, and I was face to face with somebody that looked familiar. He was a few shades lighter than Gianni with dreads. His eyes were golden brown but unreadable like Gianni’s were at times. I wondered if they were related or just a side effect of being around them for so long.

“Sweetheart, you’re not leaving until Uncle Ross says so. You might as well calm down,” he advised, stroking the small patch of hair on his chin.

“Where is Gianni?” My chest heaved angrily. I was in this situation because of him, yet he sent his father to do his dirty work. Gi wasn’t the man I thought he was, and I was disappointed in my decision-making. So far, I was 0-2 in picking quality men.

“He’s busy right now,” he replied, and it hit me. He was at the party the night Gianni and I met.

“Call him. Call him now,” I demanded, bitterness dripping from my tone.

“I can’t do that either.”

“What do you mean you can’t? Pick up the fuckin’ phone and call him!”

“Do you or the baby need anything?” he asked, disregarding my feelings and request.

“Yeah, she wants her father. Get Gianni here, now!” I demanded, unsure what difference it would make, but if I was in this shit because of him, Gi needed to face me like a man.

He chuckled, amused at my request, before shutting the door. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I waited in hopes of him obliging, but Gianni never came.Laying down, my hand faltered to my stomach.

“Hey, Princess. It’s going to be okay. I don’t know how or when, but it will be okay. Just hold tight in there, okay?” I asked as if my unborn child could reply. “Even though your other family is fuckin’ nuts. I promise you won’t be anything like them. I messed up, but I’ll get it right and give you everything I never had.”

Laying here felt like a scene from one of the books I read. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a work of fiction created from somebody’s brain with a happy ending. It was my real life, and I was deathly afraid for myself and my daughter. I closed my eyes and prayed I’d wake up from this nightmare in my hotel suite.
