“I told you to get some dick, but a baby too? Too much. Have you ever heard of condoms?” Denim fussed.

“You better be glad that’s all he gave you,” Niyomi added in a roundabout way. “That is all he gave you, right?”

“Oh, my God. Yes! Are you bitches done interrogating me?”

“For now,” Denim rolled her eyes before moving across the room to sit next to me. “I cannot wait to spoil her. She will be so cute and chocolate, just like you.”

“Get off me!” Denim rubbed my belly like she was about to make a wish. I didn’t like people in my space in such an intimate way. She knew that.

“I don’t care about your attitude. At least now you can get fucked without worrying about getting pregnant. Enjoy it while it lasts.”

“Ahhh, I heard about a lady getting pregnant while she was pregnant. Be careful.”

“Where did you hear that, Niy?” I asked, not worried because, much to my dismay, I wasn’t having sex. I wished I was, but I wasn’t that lucky.

“Ignore her. Ain’t nobody getting pregnant while pregnant,” Denim dismissed her comment with a wrist flick.

“I’m going to miss y’all,” I revealed, and Niyomi’s eyes immediately shot to Denim. Instead of setting her slick comment free, she swallowed it and smiled instead.

“Please, you’re not going to have a chance to miss us. It’s going to take more than a move and Gi’s crazy family to get rid of us.”

“Exactly. Tell Gi to get our room ready,” Denim added, and I appreciated them trying to make me feel better.

“You know she’s going to think this is her baby, right?” Niyomi asked.

“I don’t know who will be worse- her or Sadie.”

“How did she take the news?”

“She doesn’t know about the marriage part yet, but she didn’t say much about the move.”

“I know one person that’s going to be sick when he finds out,” Denim’s grin was both cynical and mocking.

“That’s what Cel gets. The audacity of him after he got caught fucking some bitch at his wedding rehearsal. Who does that?” Niyomi questioned.

“He told Spud you took some money from him when you moved out.”

“Fuck Marcel.” He stole three years of my life, so I deserved compensation. That is what I told myself. It wouldn't have happened had Marcel let the girls get my shit, but the minute I saw him, the anger I thought was gone had resurfaced, and I wanted Marcel to pay for what he did to me.

The girls and I talked for another hour before Niyomi reminded me it was our traditional reality TV night of laughing at other people's drama. My life had enough, and it felt good to focus on somebody else’s for a little while.

Chapter Seven

The week had been a lot smoother than I anticipated. Hailo was going to drive me crazy with that flip-ass mouth, but mine wasn’t too far from it, so I didn’t take most of it personally. Plus, it made for good entertainment. We spoke daily- usually in the morning and again in the evening so that I could check on her and the baby. Each conversation grew longer, getting to know each other more. Oddly, it had me looking forward to seeing her tomorrow.

After dropping by my parents’ house to pick up paperwork for Hailo to sign, I had business to handle. Hailo had sent me a grocery list of things she and the baby needed, so I stopped at the store on my way home for the night. Then a text came in from Kyerra that made my chest shrink.

Kyerra: Are you home?

Me: Around the corner. Wassup?

Kyerra: Can I come to grab my stuff?

Me: Yeah. I’m here.

Kyerra: On my way.

I offered to drop it off or have Solana pick it up for her. Not because I was avoiding Kyerra. It was my guilt for how the situation played out. She was angry and hurt, and I didn’t want to put her through any more pain if I could help. Kyerra declined, insisting she would get her belongings herself, and I didn’t fight her on it.
