“Renni promises to be a good girl. Nothing is going to happen.”

“Renni promised?” he asked, amused at the nickname I’d given our daughter already.

“Yeah, she did. Ask her.”

“Don’t get in there doing too much. I mean it, Hailo.”

I always wanted a man to look at me the way Gi was looking at me as he sat back down and placed my legs back in their rightful place. He looked at me as if he thanked God for allowing us to cross paths.

Chapter Ten

Kyerra could barely sit still in the passenger seat as we cruised to Paradise’s Dream. She was likely nervous about being under the same roof as Gi, but it was nothing to worry about. We had all been friends for as long as I could remember. She hit me and asked what I was doing tonight, likely because Solana had plans- Mack’s birthday party- so I extended the invitation.

“Have you ever been to the strip club before?”

“Why?”

“You look nervous as fuck. I’m definitely going to have to get you a lap dance tonight.”

“I’ll leave the lap dances to you.”

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“Of course, I’ve been to a strip club before.”

“A female strip club?” I clarified.

“No.”

“Damn, I get to pop your cherry again. Lucky me.”

“Whatever, Tyson.”

“I’m messing with you. Relax, though. You’re good tonight.” I planted my free hand on her thigh for reassurance.

Pulling into the parking lot, I parked next to Gianni’s car and hopped out. After opening the door for Kyerra, we made our way inside.

“Happy Birthday! It’s time to turn up!” I slapped my hands with Mack, knowing I would hear his mouth later.

“Y’all could’ve saved this party.”

“Now, why would we do that?”

“Happy Birthday Mack,” Kyerra cut into the intense stare-down he delivered, annoyed because he wasn’t big on celebrating.

“Sup Ky. Thanks for coming,” Mack replied, accepting the hug she offered.

“Of course. This is for you.” Kyerra nervously shoved the card toward him.

“You didn’t have to do all that.”

“It’s the least I could do since they dragged you here.”

“Where’s Gi? I didn’t think that nigga would be able to get you here, honestly,” I asked, looking around.

“He went to check on Hailo.”

“I’m going to find Sol. I’ll be back.” Kyerra dismissed herself, and I couldn’t ignore Mack’s glare if I wanted to.
