I pulled into my parent’s driveway behind Morgan’s car and hopped out. When I walked into the living room, my father was standing in the middle of the floor like I was a child coming home late after curfew.

“I told you I needed to see you both yesterday.”Pops was fussing at Morgan as soon as I walked in, and I knew what kind of visit this would be.

“I can hear just fine.”

“I can’t tell!” Pops complained.

“Wassup Pop?” I asked, slapping hands with Morgan and falling onto the couch.

“And you? Where the hell have you been?”

“Home.”

“Surprised you didn’t bring your girl with you,” Morgan smiled, purposely stirring the pot.

"Fuck you."

"Watch your mouth in my house!” Pops scolded me while Morgan laughed. “What girl is he referring to?”

“I don’t know. I don’t mess with girls.”

Morgan glowered at my facetious response because I knew what he meant.

“Somebody fill me in. What the hell happened to your face?”

“I got married,” I blurted out, and Morgan even sat up because I hadn’t told him my biggest secret.

“You did what!” My father yelled so loud that my mother came rushing into the room.

“Are you fa real right now?” Morgan asked.

“Dead serious.”

“About what?” Mom asked, joining us in the living room.

“Apparently, your son got married!” Dad yelled, and her eyes fled to me. I felt bad that I had robbed her of that moment, but at the end of the day, it was about Solana and me.

“Quest,” she whimpered. “Is that true?”

“Yes.”

“You and Bella?” She asked, and I shook my head.

“Solana Meraux,” I corrected.

“Have you lost your damn mind? I guess I don’t need to wonder what happened to your face.” Pops was so mad he was pacing the living room while Mom was in shock. “I expect this kind of impulsive shit from your brother, but you,” he shook his head, “You know better.”

“How did I get in it?” Morgan scolded.

“I didn’t come here to ask for anyone’s permission. We got married because we wanted to. You don’t have to like it, but she’s my wife, and you have to respect that.”

“Have to?” Pops repeated like I didn’t learn how to protect my wife from him protecting his.

“Why is this the first we’re hearing of this?” Mom asked.

“I don’t know.”

“You were sure enough that you wanted to marry her, but don’t know why you didn’t tell your family?” Pops chuckled because, in his mind, he had me figured out. “Maybe you’re not as sure as you think.”
