“Tell me something good, Tim,” I demanded, walking up to the site manager.

“We’ve hit a snag, but don’t worry, we’re working overtime to get caught up.” He said quickly, trying to cover his ass.

“What kind of snag?”

“A few unexpected things have put us behind schedule.”

“Hold that thought.” A smirk spread as her name lit up my home screen.

Since she stormed out of my office, Solana and I hadn't spoken much. Our communication had been limited to obligatory check-in texts confirming that we'd spoken. Solana could be a brat, but I couldn't blame her. After all, the world had revolved around her for over twenty years, which is why I had her saved under ‘Princess’ in my phone.

Princess: Can I see you tonight?

Me: You miss me?

Princess: Depends

Me: I’m fucking with you. Yes, you can see me tonight.

Princess: Thanks for the permission ??

Me: I have some shit to handle. I’ll hit you when I finish.

Princess: Okay.

I slid my phone back into my pocket and gave Tim my attention so he could explain.

“Why the fuck isn’t this shit done?”

“We ran into a problem with the wiring and-” Tim explained, but I cut him off. I didn’t give a fuck about his excuses.

“Did you get your money upfront?” Tim looked frustrated, but as far as I was concerned, he could find the nearest mirror, look in that bitch, and be mad at himself. “Better yet, did the fuckin’ electrician get his money upfront?”

“Yes.”

Grabbing him by the back of his neck the same way my Pops used to do me, I gritted, “Then get my shit done, and I want it done right.”

Turning to leave, I reminded Tim that I wanted to see progress the next time I came. I didn’t like getting out of character, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t if need be.

After shit went down with the Merauxs, My Pops left me in charge of the casino in DuPont Falls because I was more level-headed to handle things with so much tension between the two families. I was here full-time, and he was back and forth to assist as needed.

The short trip over the bridge home calmed my irritation, or maybe knowing I would see Solana tonight. It was wild to think how quickly my feelings for her developed. When I pulled up to Morgan’s crib, I put that out of my mind to get to the bottom of what was happening.

“Knock, knock,” I announced, letting myself in.

Morgan strolled downstairs, joining me in the kitchen. I don’t even know why I opened the refrigerator because it wasn’t shit in there.

“Wassup?”

“I spoke to Gi the other day.” The mention of Gianni tightened Morgan’s jaw. “The payment was short.”

“No, it wasn’t.”

“He says otherwise.”

“So, who are you believing? Me or him?” Morgan bucked.

“Take some of that fuckin’ bass out of your voice.”
