Nothing else needs to be said.

I finally feel ready for this.

The man opposite melovesme. That’s all I need to know.

“Okay,” August whispers back.

Still holding my hand, August guides me through the open doors into the villa and into the candlelit bedroom. The air inside the room is infused with the aroma of tropical flowers and fragrant incense, crafting an aura of quietening tranquility. The king-sized bed is draped in luxurious linen sheets, positively inviting. The hand-crafted teak furniture gives the bedroom a dark, dusky ambiance.

As August stops by the bed, he turns to me slowly. He looks so damn handsome in this soft lighting.

I am an adult now, and I make my own choices.

And this is what I want to do, above anything else right now.

This feels right.

I make sure the door to the bedroom is firmly shut behind me after we enter. No disturbances. No one can enter this sacred space. It’s just going to be August and me, without any sneaking around some big old mansion. Truly just us two, as he promised me when we disembarked that plane.

Tonight, I am going to allow this man who so clearly loves me take my virginity.

I can already tell that something is wrong as soon as our plane descends into the tiny Crystal River airport. It probably has something to do with a woman’s natural intuition, but it’s like I canfeeldeep in my gut that something is going to go terribly, terribly bad the moment we land.

And I am not mistaken.

Not good. Not good. Not good.

As August brings our plane to a gradual stop at the end of the solitary runaway, I can make out dark shapes moving fast toward us across the tarmac. People and cars approaching at speed. Probably about a dozen people in total. It’s a scary sight.

It takes me a moment to figure them out more clearly - they’re men in uniforms. Men with rifles. They’re security; big burly men running in our direction followed by vehicles before we’ve even disembarked the plane.

Only one type of people hires such men in this small town - the Penmaynes.

These men belong to August’s family, and they’re heading straight for the plane, and there’s no way for us to escape.

Yep, something is very, very wrong.

As the plane propeller stops, August turns to face me in the pilot’s seat. He sniffed out the danger as well.

“What is this?” I ask him.

“I don’t know,” he replies, a hint of unease creeps into his usually calm voice.

“I’m scared, August.”

“I know,” he replies. “But I’m here with you. Remember that.”

“Okay.”

“Whatever happens next,” he tells me. “Let me talk. Let me take the blame. Let me resolve this.”

I don’t answer or nod back at him. I’m utterly frozen in fear.

We disembark the plane just as the uniformed men reach us. They surround the plane with their menacing guns and their chilling dark uniforms and their intimidating blank faces.
