My heart beats faster.

“You really think so?” I ask.

“What did you feel like on stage? Did it feel good to you?”

I nod.

“Yes,” I reply. “Yes, it did. It feltright.”

“It looked right,” August says. “Thank you for doing that. It was a privilege to witness you dance again, Emma. It really was.”

“Thank you, August,” I whisper. “For all of this. For hiring this place. I don’t have the words to express how I feel. That stage... was simplyeverything.”

The doctor looks back behind him before turning back to me. It’s as if he’s checking something backstage.

“I’ve got someone here for you,” he says.

My eyes widen.

“Who?”

“I lied earlier,” he explains softly. “I lied about it being just me in the audience. I have two people here who saw your performance as well, and who desperately want to see you.”

There were others?

Before I can even say anything, the two people he’s talking about rush into the room with awhoop.

I let out the biggest laugh when I see them.

Diana and Faith.

They both swarm past August to give me the tightest three-way hug. I hug them back with the same level of loving fierceness.

Faith is already giggling in my ear. Her laugh is pure music.

“That wasamazing, Emma! I loved watching you up there. Dancing and spinning and looking amazing.”

“Thank you, Faith. I honestly didn’t know you two were here.”

“When August told us what he had planned,” Diana says, “we couldn’t resist. We wanted to see you dance properly. And you were so good, Emma. We wanted to surprise you.”

“Yeah, you did surprise me. I might have a heart attack.”

Faith pulls out something from behind her back. It’s a bright bouquet of beautiful red roses.

“These are for you,” she beams.

I gasp. “What are these?”

“Flowers, silly,” Faith replies, still laughing her gorgeous little laugh. “I told you I would give you flowers when I see you dancing on stage.”

“You did,” I reply, taking the bouquet from her and smelling them dramatically. “These are amazing, Faith. Thank you so much.”

“This has been the best day,” she giggles.

“Thank you,” I reply. “I’m so happy to see you both.”

“And we’re so happy to see you dance,” Diana says, beaming at her daughter.
