“If you’re interested, I’m on it. We haven’t found another couple that we both enjoy hanging out with. It’s weird.”

“I don’t even know what to say to that.”

“But if Ashlynn’s not interested, what about her sister? Chloe.”

Reid shook his head. “She’s very nice and I talked to her a bit at the engagement party, but she’s not really my type. And…considering my history with Ashlynn…”

“I can’t believe she flashed you twice,” he said with a laugh. “Once caused you enough problems. But twice?”

Ugh…why did I cave and tell him about the driveway incident?

“Jeez!” Leo went on. “Most guys would kill to be in your position.”

“Excuse me?”

“Reid, come on. Ashlynn Donovan was the girl every guy in school wanted. She’s always been attractive.”

“Does Avery know you feel this way?”

“I’m engaged, not dead,” he commented. “And it’s not like I want Ashlynn, but I can say that she’s a beautiful woman. You crushed hard on her back in high school.”

“Yeah, and look where it got me.”

“You got further with her than most guys,” Leo joked. “You were the envy of every guy in our grade.”

“All because I saw her underwear? Seriously?”

“If it’s any consolation, you’re probably the reason she didn’t let any guys near her until senior year.”

Groaning, he fell back against the cushions. “Great. So because of circumstances beyond her control and the fact that I had a big mouth, she didn’t date anyone.” He groaned again. “I’m surprised she talked to me at all at the engagement party.”

“I’m surprised she didn’t punch you in the throat!”

“Okay, that’s a bit dramatic, don’t you think?”

“Maybe. Anyway, it was a long time ago, and if her skirt hadn’t flown up again…”

“Alright, that’s enough,” he said, feeling oddly protective of her.

Then maybe stop telling people about her…

With a huff, he stood. “I’m gonna go, and I have no idea how long this is going to take.”

“No worries. I’m meeting Avery for dinner, so I’m not sure what time I’ll be back either, so I’ll just plan on seeing you later.”

“Great!” He walked around and picked up his keys and phone before pulling on his coat. “I’ll see you later.”

And as he walked outside and climbed in his truck, he wished Billie Donovan had been able to come up with a way for him to break the ice with her sister. If there were a way for him to have a logical excuse to go and see her, he’d do it in a heartbeat.

But for tonight, he was just going to have to let it go.

Chapter Four

“Oh my God…what are you doing here?”

Billie and Chloe stood in her doorway smiling, holding what looked—and smelled—like food from the pub.

“We came to cheer you up,” Chloe said as she stepped inside.
