A sliver of light under the bathroom door that I didn’t see before.
My heart drops into my gut as the door opens.
“Oh my fucking God,” I say, averting my eyes.
David Simpson, naked as a damned baby.
My body tenses, and I feel like a bucket of freezing cold water has been drenched over my head.
I thought I was prepared for this.
But when I saw Maddie alone, I let my guard down.
“Shit.” Dave returns to the bathroom and comes out a few seconds later with one of the white plush ropes wrapped around himself.
“What the hell are you doing here, Pike?”
“Checking on my sister, thank you very much.”
“After you got done fucking my cousin?” Dave says.
With everything in me, I want to pummel him into next week. I could do it to that pretty boy.
I draw in a breath, hold it a few seconds, exhale.
Fuck. Didn’t help.
“Jesse—” Maddie begins.
“Shut up,” I say to her, and then I turn to Dave. “Just so I don’t have to say it again, you shut up too.”
He chuckles, shaking his head. “You’ve got some nerve.”
“Did you not hear me? I said shut up.”
Dave crosses his arms, looking like a diva in that robe. “And in what world do I have to answer to you?”
“In the world where you’re fucking my sister, you jackass.”
“Right. That same world where you just fucked my cousin.”
“She’s not your sister,” I say through gritted teeth.
“What if she were? What if it was Angie or Sage instead of Brianna? You think that makes one bit of difference to me?”
“I don’t care. We’re not having this conversation.” I motion to Maddie. “Get dressed. You’ll stay with Brianna and me tonight.”
“I will not,” Maddie says. “I’m the same age Brianna is. Older, in fact, by a month or so. You already broke up my shot with Zane Michaels.”
“He’s a player. And so is Dave Simpson.”
“No more than Donny or Brock are. And they settled down… With our sisters, Jesse.”
Interesting. The look I’m getting from David Simpson right now tells me all I need to know. He doesn’t have any intention of settling down with my sister. He’s fucking her, plain and simple.
“Go back to Brianna, Jesse,” Maddie says.
I’ve got to get a handle on this.
