Page 37 of Craving The Chase

He looks like shit. Not at all the put together guy that I’ve known all these years. The wound on his face has faded quite well. You can still see it, but it's not so obvious that it's the first thing you notice about him.

He barges past me, forcing his way into my house.

“Excuse me, what the hell do you think you are doing? Get out of my house, Wade.”

“No, I need to talk to you. You can’t keep avoiding me, Chase.”

“Yes. I can. We’re over and I’ve made it very clear, multiple times, that I don’t want to see you or talk to you. You know I could report you for harassment?”

“And I could have your boyfriend put away for doing this to me!” he yells.

“I don’t have a boyfriend. You’re delusional, Wade. And even if I did have a boyfriend, it's got nothing to do with you because we aren’t together.”

He scowls at me, and if I didn’t know him any better, I would think he was going to hit me.

“You need to leave,” I say, before a voice that wasn’t here before makes itself known and I freeze. Oh no. Noah.Fuck.

“I think Chase is right, you do need to leave,” Noah says as he enters the living room from the back door. Wade spins around so fast, he has to steady himself when he faces Noah.

“You!” Wade shouts. He turns to me, eyes so wide you can’t see his eyelids.

“Him! So heisyour boyfriend. This fucker sliced me! Did you plan this? Is this your woeful attempt to get me back for cheating? To make me jealous?”

“Stop thinking so highly of yourself. And no, I only found out recently what he did to you.”

“And you didn’t think to say anything. What the fuck has happened to you, Chase?”

Before I can respond, Noah is up in Wade’s face, gripping him by his suit jacket.

“Keep talking to him like that, and you won’t have a face left.”

“Wade, you need to leave,” I say.

“No. I can’t. They’re outside.”

I frown. “Who’s outside?”

Noah still has a hold on his jacket and doesn’t seem to be in any rush to let go.

“I’ve had some people threaten me to stop pursuing a commercial contract for a client. They’ve resorted to following me,” Wade says.

“So you thought it would be a great idea to bring them here?” What the hell was he thinking? Then it clicks and I look at Noah, who’s already staring at me.

“Your dad?” I ask, and he shrugs. The move doesn’t annoy me as much as it did before.

“Your dad? You're Mitchell Bryson’s son?” Wade asks Noah. Wade's face has drained of all color as a sinister smile takes over Noah’s face.

“Yeah. He wanted me to hurt you. But I didn’t.”

“Then what do you call this?” he says, pointing at his face.

“That was to keep you from Chase. I’m warning you, I will cut your heart out if I find you anywhere near him again. Now get the fuck out.”

Noah pushes him to the floor, and Wade scrambles to his feet, looking at me for help, but I can’t and I’m not sure I even want to. Wade scurries out of the back door, slamming it shut behind him. I bury my face in my hands, hoping to find answers there if I block out the room.

“Did he touch you?”

“No. I’m okay, it’s just I’ve never seen him act like that before.”
