Greyson flashed her his teeth instead of answering, and still followed the girl out of the room. A second later, I heard the door open and close.

“He thinks he’s so scary,” she said, rolling her eyes. “He forgets that I’ve known him since he was in diapers.”

Carter grinned. “Well, Dr. Freeman. I would love to hear some stories one day when you have time.”

Dr. Freeman grinned. “There are some good ones.”

I climbed back into bed, feeling pitifully tired. Sebastian tried to pull the covers up to my chin like a mother hen.

“Depending on what it was, you could feel tired for at least another week,” Dr. Freeman said, obviously seeing my exhaustion.

“What do you think it was?” I asked quietly.

“You haven’t had a headache or anything like that?” she questioned.

I shook my head. “Just extreme exhaustion and a dry mouth.”

Dr. Freeman nodded. “I’m sure it was just a little sleeping powder then. Nothing to be too worried about.”

“Even if—” I glanced at Jack, Sebastian, and Carter who were hanging on my every word. “Even if I could be pregnant?” I finished in a whisper.

Jack’s body was practically vibrating as he gripped my hand tightly, holding it in both of his hands as he lifted it to his lips and pressed a gentle kiss on my racing pulse.

“You think you’re pregnant?” Dr. Freeman asked with a frown, rooting around her bag and pulling out some medical devices.

“Sheispregnant,” Jack said firmly.

I glanced up at him, shocked.

“That test you took with Greyson came back positive, pretty girl. We’re going to be parents,” Jack told me, the emotion in his eyes enough to take my breath away.

There was a moment where I felt euphoric, but it was immediately followed by a wave of fear so strong I could barely breathe.

Was my baby alright?

“Let’s get you looked at,” Dr. Freeman said soothingly, obviously sensing my building hysteria.

She took my temperature and examined my eyes and my throat before measuring my pulse.

“Pulse is high, but that’s a good sign that whatever they gave you wasn’t super harmful,” she commented.

She continued her examination, explaining each step before she proceeded. She palpated my abdomen, feeling for any abnormalities, while the guys watched closely, their expressions a mix of concern and protectiveness.

I heard the distant ding of the elevator and then a minute later, Greyson and Alex appeared—she didn’t look any less scared, and he didn’t look any less stressed out.

Greyson at least had a fresh bandage on his arm though.

I wondered what the lab had thought of him looking like he’d just come back from war.

“They’ll send you the results soon, Dr. Freeman,” Alex commented in a trembling voice as Greyson stalked towards me, his gaze running up and down my body like he was making sure nothing had happened while he was gone.

“Can you grab the ultrasound machine, Alex?” the doctor asked in a level tone that seemed to relax her assistant...at least a little. “It should have been delivered just now.”

“Yes, Doctor,” Alex said, hurrying out of the room.

Greyson stared after her suspiciously before glancing down at me, his entire face softening.

“What did I miss?” he asked, his fingers trailing down my cheek. I leaned into his touch, still holding onto Jack’s hand tightly.
