“Do we have to do this? I’m fine. It’s just always a pleasure to run into the women you guys were fucking while I was out there wandering around the city for the last five years because you’d left me.” My words came out far more emotional than I’d intended.

I blamed the alcohol.

Sebastian was glaring at Jack whose face was the picture of devastation.

“Well, I can't speak for theothers, princess. But my dick and other women were never in the same picture. He’s only loyal to you...as am I,” Sebastian purred, taking my hand and brushing his lips across my skin like he was my knight in shining armor and not the boy who’d burnt my apartment building down so I had to move in with him.

“Really?” I asked, a tiny flicker of happiness melting away some of the hurt I’d been feeling for the last little while.

He stared at me, brushing a piece of hair out of my face as he pressed a soft kiss against my lips. “How could I have had anyone else, when I’d already tasted perfection?”

Jack smacked his beer bottle on the table, shattering the little moment Sebastian and I had been having. “Thanks, asshole!” he snarled at Sebastian who flipped him off.

Carter wasn’t saying anything, but he looked worried and pissed off too.

Jack slid his hand towards me frantically. “Will you come home with me? Can we talk?” he begged. He looked so miserable sitting there that I reluctantly nodded.

“I had plans for tonight,” Sebastian said grumpily, slinging his arm around me possessively.

“Let them talk,” Carter growled, his gaze promising that he and I would be having a talk in the near future as well.

Sebastian was muttering to himself, something about always getting the short end of the stick, as he slid out of the booth and let me out. I moved to step towards the exit, but he grabbed me before I could get far, pulling me into his body and taking my mouth in a brain melting kiss that set my entire body on fire.

“You’re mine tomorrow night,” he ordered, and I nodded, just as desperate for him as he seemed to be for me.

“See you later, sweetheart,” Carter murmured, his hands sliding into my hair as he directed my lips away from Sebastian to his greedy ones. I sank into his kiss, sighing a little as I did.

I was aware of all the eyes on us as they passed me around, but at that moment, I couldn’t find it in myself to care.

I wanted them all to see. I wanted them all to know that these men belonged to me.

Jack waited silently until they were done and then pressed his palm to the small of my back and led me towards the door.

“I love you, Kennedy!” Sebastian suddenly yelled, his voice rising above the crowd of his teammates and puck bunnies. I flushed and blew him a kiss, thinking how ridiculous it looked that he’d yelled that as I was leaving with his best friend.

This was a weird life.

I shivered as we walked out into the cool air. Jack tentatively put his arm around me, like he was afraid I was going to shrug him off. I cuddled against him, his body warming me up as the wind blasted against my face.

We got to his new truck, and he opened the door for me, helping me up into the cab before he pulled the seatbelt across my lap and buckled me in.

“I’m never going to get used to that,” I remarked and he grinned, his first one of the past half hour.

“Eventually, we’ll do it so much that you will.”

Jack closed the door and walked around the front of the truck, hesitating for a second before he opened his door, like he was trying to prepare himself. I watched him take a deep breath and then he pulled on the door and hopped inside.

He slid his arm behind me as he glanced behind us and backed out of the spot. We were silent as he pulled out of the parking lot and headed down the road towards our place.

I realized that was one of the first times I’d called it that in my head.

Look at me...getting used to the high life.

Maybe I would get used to them buckling my seatbelt after all.

“I’m sorry,” Jack said suddenly, breaking me out of my random thoughts.

“I mean it’s stupid for me to be mad,” I whispered, pushing my hair out of my eyes and staring at the passing streets sullenly. “I was supposed to be out of your life. It was to be expected that you would move on.”
