Argh.

“Can’t you at least give me a clue?”

“If I did that, then it would ruin the surprise.” He chuckles.

“Can you at least tell me if we’re far?” I pout.

“Just a few more minutes. We’re almost there.”

I bite my lower lip, filled with anticipation, as I play every scenario in my head of what Nate is up to. When the car finally stops, I’m giddy with excitement. He helps me out of the car, holding onto me while leading me to whatever surprise he’s cooked up for me.

“Careful with your step,” he says, but when I trip on something, he forgoes giving me directions and lifts me in his arms instead.

“Well, this is familiar,” I cajole, nestling my head on his shoulder. “A week ago, you carried me into our home just like this. Do you remember?”

“I’ll never forget it. That’s the day you told me you loved me. I have it engraved in my heart,” he whispers, placing a sweet kiss on my temple.

“For a man who is always saying he isn’t good with words, you sure do know exactly what to say. Not that words matter. Your sweet actions speak louder than any pretty word you could ever say to me.”

“Still, there are a few things I would have done differently,” he retorts.

“There are?” I frown. “I wouldn’t. I love our story. I love everything about it.”

“I’m happy to hear you say that, sweetheart. Maybe you’ll love what I’m about to do next just as much.”

He presses a chaste kiss to my lips and places my feet on solid ground. I then feel him stand behind me as he pulls the blindfold from my eyes.

It’s at this time that I see we’re standing at the very center of the Guardians’ arena, red roses spread all over, covering most of the ice rink. And though that alone is a sight to behold, it’s thefact that all my friends and family, including Nate’s teammates, are standing around us with wide smiles on their faces.

“What’s… what’s going on?”

“This,” Nate says before bending a knee and taking my hand in his. “Like I said, there are a few things I wish I would have done differently—with a bit more grandeur. And to properly ask you to marry me in front of our family and friends is one of them.”

Tears start to stream down my face as I watch every person who means something to me witness this beautiful, kind-hearted pledge of his love for me.

“Like I told you before, words… they don’t come easy to me. Not like loving you does. Everything in my life felt like a struggle, a hardship that I needed to push through. But falling in love with you was so easy, Lottie. So natural. And I fell hard. So hard that sometimes I thought my heart wasn’t big enough to hold this much love for someone. But you showed me differently. You taught me that I’d be able to love you even more with each passing day. I may not know much, but I know this. Loving you, Lottie, was what I was born to do. Now and forever.”

Silent tears fall down my face as he pulls a velvet box out from his coat pocket.

“Charlotte Moore, when we first met, you vowed to find my perfect match. The search is over, sweetheart. You are perfect for me in every way, and you’d make me the happiest man alive if you’d accept this ring and be my wife.”

When Nate opens the box to reveal my beloved Nana’s engagement ring with a few added diamonds, I break into a sob.

“Yes, Nate Wilder. I’ll marry you.”

Nate doesn’t hesitate to stand up and kiss me long and hard in front of the huge crowd, everyone cheering in elation, happy that we’ve found each other.

Yes.

Nate might not be good with words, but his actions are more than enough for me.

They are everything.

Because of them, I know he will spend the rest of our lives making me feel loved and cherished.

And I, for one, can’t wait for our life to start.

The End
