“You’re right. It’s not. There isn’t a home or a city big enough to hold my love for you. I doubt anything is. I guess you’ll just have to be content with my heart. For it holds all the love I have for you. Down to its last molecule.”

Trent’s eyes begin to water as he stares down at me.

“Kitten, did you just say what I think you did?” he asks, releasing his grip on my wrists so I can wrap my arms around his neck.

“If you mean, did I just tell you that I loved you, then yes. Aren’t you paying attention?” I tease, but my beautiful man just closes his eyes as if reveling in my declaration of love.

“Say it again, Piper. Please?”

“I love you, Trent. I’minlove with you. I have always been, and I’m so sorry it took so long to say it. I guess I was always waiting for the perfect time, but we can’t plan those special moments beforehand. It was stupid of me to even think so. I’m ready for us to start our life here. In this house. Loving you every day that we live here and every other that we don’t. I’ll spend my whole life loving you for as long as you let me.”

Trent then opens his eyes, the dark black abyss no longer empty but full of love for me.

“How does eternity sound?” he asks, with unshed happy tears in his voice.

“Sounds perfect to me.”

Epilogue

Trent

Three years later.

If you had told me a few years ago that my preferred vacation spot would be San Antonio, Texas, I’d have thought you had a few loose screws.

Not because Texas wasn’t a great holiday destination, but because I didn’tdovacations, period.

I worked. That’s all I did.

Twenty-four-seven.

Three-hundred-and-sixty-five days out of the year.

And I was perfectly content living out my days just like that.

That is until a certain blonde vixen turned my world upside down and reminded me that life is just too short not to spend every minute of it with the people who matter most to you.

Jobs come and go, but making memories with the ones you love—that is eternal.

So here I am, at Rex’s ranch, enjoying my free time by standing behind a wooden fence, watching my dearest friend attempt to tame yet another one of his wild horses in the dusty arena.

Though I’ve seen him do this a hundred times before, my hands still grip the rough surface of the protective fence, watching the majestic animal try to buck and kick Rex off him in defiance.

Again, I can’t help but reminisce on another fierce creature that gave me a run for my money, much like his wild stallion is giving Rex right now.

“Goddamn it, Rex! You’re going to get yourself killed one day!” I hear my love call out from behind me, as she rushes out of the house and starts sprinting towards me.

“I think that’s the plan.” I laugh, under my breath.

Though I meant the remark as a joke, there is some truth to it.

Rex isn’t exactly clinging to life with both hands like he is that horse. He’s all too eager for the day he’s taken to meet his maker.

Because when that day comes, he’ll be reunited with his beloved Martha.

And that right there is enough for the old man to live his life with reckless abandonment, praying that his antics will get him closer to the day he’s finally reunited with the love of his life.

I didn’t understand that before.
