“It’s what we were raised to do, isn’t it?” I ask him.

“You’re right. It is, and you do it well, Rylan.” I nod my head before shoving out of the chair to stand.

“I have some shit to do,” I tell him.

“Are you attending the Gods party at Chaos tomorrow?”

“Yeah, I’ll be there.”

“Good. I don’t want anything to go wrong,” he says before sitting back in his chair.

“What could go wrong?”

“After the damage you did to the Crows? I suspect nothing.” Now I chuckle. Yeah, they won’t be a problem anymore.

I turn and head for the door, moving down the stairs and out to the car. I climb in, pull out of the driveway, and head back to my house.

As I drive down the driveway, I notice just how dark it is out here. I smile because I like the dark and I think Syn will too.

I park at the front of the house and head inside ready to finish what I started. Tomorrow, I’m going to surprise Syn. I’m going to do things to her and show her things she’s never seen before.

I take the stairs two at a time and enter my room, grabbing the bags off the floor and dropping them onto the bed. Then I start pulling out the things I bought for Syn.

Chapter 18

Tamsyn

My stomach is in fucking knots right now. My hands shake as I slip into my pajamas. Short shorts that show half my ass and a tank top that’s nearly too small. I hate the way I feel right now, but I know what I have to do.

When I heard my mom was going to be out with the other queens tonight, I knew that it was because of Matt and the deal we made. That means Brady is here with me. Alone. No. Not quite alone. There are men outside. Other Kings Matt had put in place. At least I pray to God they’re out there.

Matt has my room and the bathroom covered since that’s his favorite place to take me. I sit on the bed, flipping through my phone, trying to act as normal as possible, but I find it extremely hard, considering he’s out there roaming the house somewhere.

It’s already almost midnight, and I think about just going to bed, but then I hear it. Footsteps outside my door. I look over and see the shadow of someone standing there. Then he opens the door, and I cringe.

My head snaps up, keeping my eyes on him the whole time.

“My mom’s here,” I say with a shaky voice. Brady just smiles. Play dumb, Tamsyn. Pretend you don’t know she isn’t here.

“She’s not.”

“She said she wasn’t going out tonight,” I tell him.

“You’ve been gone. Where have you been?”

“None of your business,” I snap at him like I usually would. I’m trying to remain calm and hold onto what self-control I have left. I don’t want to be weak, not against him.

“I’m your father now, Tam. You need to learn to respect your father.” I swallow hard as I stand and challenge him.

“Make me.” He laughs.

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”

“Just stay away from me, Brady,” I warn him. He shakes his head. He starts toward me when he pulls out a lighter and flicks it in his hand. The flame goes higher than it usually does, and I take a step back.

“You ever smelled burnt human flesh?” Now I shudder. He wouldn’t do that, would he? If he were to burn me, it would leave a mark. People would see and ask questions, right?

“No.”
