“Come on. Get ready for your clinic, and I’ll drive you there.”

She spluttered for a few seconds before shaking her head. Good. It would be better for her if she followed my plans.

After another breakfast delivered by Craig and more curious looks from Catherine, the housemate, I pulled up outside the dental school, tamping down a growl at the thought of her leaning over the great unwashed of Sheffield.

Feck. How was I going to cope with her chosen career?

“I’ll pick you up at five.”

“It’s fine. I have an appointment in town, so I’ll walk there.”

“I’ll take you to the appointment.”

“It’s fine.”

“I know it is.” I got out and walked around to her door.

She gave me an exasperated look as she got out and then waved at a girl I’d seen her with when I visited her clinic.

“I don’t need you to take me everywhere.”

I pulled her against me and kissed her. I hated the blonde wig she had on, but I resisted tearing it off.

“See you later, a chuisle.” I pulled away, enjoying her dazed look and her taste on my tongue.

She would eventually learn that I got what I wanted.

“Oh my god, is that the hunky man meat from the clinic last week? You sly fox,” Rosie hissed at me as I walked over.

She bounced on her feet and hooked her arm around mine. I could feel Sean’s scorching stare at my back.

“Maybe.”

“Are you banging him?”

“Yes,” I told her a partial truth.

In reality, I wasn’t sure what we were. While he tempted me like no one I’d ever met, he still worried me. Or at least what he did concerned me. He never explicitly said he was involved in organised crime, but the guy screamed mafia leader.

“Wow. Is he good?”

I hummed, not wanting to get into specifics but unable to deny the small amount of fooling around we’d done had rocked my world. I was no stranger to sex, but orgasms were like unicorns with glittery poop until Sean blew into my life.

Rosie chattered as we walked through the dental school until we parted to put our stuff away and check the patient list for the day.

The day passed in a blur. Pleasantly, Harrison wasn’t around. We finished slightly early, and I found Craig outside, standing next to a black Audi. My steps faltered, and he walked over.

“The boss was running late and asked me to drive you to your appointment.”

“That wasn’t necessary,” I said, accepting the lift. It looked like rain, and I hated getting drenched. “How is Ian’s face?” I asked.

“He’s fine. But if you keep asking after him, it won’t remain that way,” he said, opening the back door for me.

I slid in, thinking about that ridiculous statement and Sean’s jealous streak. It shouldn’t have pleased me, but in a twisted way, it did. I gave Craig the address in town. He’d have to drop me outside because it was on the tram tracks. Indeed, he didn’t look happy when we pulled up.

“You don’t need to escort me inside.” I dived out of the car and rushed across the pavement into the small salon. Carmel greeted me and took my coat.
