CHAPTER 1

Cameron

This hockey game just got way more interesting.

Because Luna McNeill is sitting one row in front of me, I can hear every word she says.

And see her phone screen.

“I’m trying to find three hot guys to have a hookup with,” she tells her friend, scrolling through her phone with her thumb.

Unless this girl wants to fuck a scone, she is not on a dating app. Right now, she’s cropping the image of a sticky bun with a drizzle that makes my mouth water for more than one reason. She’s always working at the Chicago Racketeers’ games. She looks at images of baked goods, searches for new recipes, checks her email, and makes notes to herself.

As a workaholic myself, I love a good multi-task. This is why while Luna watches her brother, Crew, out on the ice and does pastry research on her phone, I watch my best friend and Racketeers defenseman, Alexsei Ryan, as I look at dating apps.

Alexsei mentioned he was up for us having a hookup with a girl sooner than later, and I’m never going to say no to that. The woman definitely matters to Alexsei. He has a specific type.

Blonde hairstylist wearing elaborate makeup. No. Not what Alexsei is into. Too high maintenance.

Swipe.

A brunette on a motorcycle.

Immediate swipe.

A cute girl named Lex, with a big smile who likes CrossFit. You would think that would be a maybe, but it’s actually a hard no. Alexsei doesn't date athletes. He likes to be the strong one. He has a thing about fireman-carrying girls to bed and comparing his big, bulky hands to their petite ones.

Swipe.

I zero in on Luna’s hands. She has delicate, long fingers, and always has very pointy fingernails in dark polish colors that probably have names like Suck His Blood and Midnight Goddess.

The kind of nails that would look sexy as hell wrapped around a man’s cock.

“I want to be Dani, too,” Luna adds, glancing over at her friend, who blushes.

I stop searching for potential hookups and listen more closely to Luna’s conversation with Crew’s girlfriend, Dani, curious about where their discussion is headed.

Dani is in a very public poly relationship with Crew, the Racketeers physician, and the team owner, who is sitting on her other side, a hand possessively resting on her knee. Hockey fans gobbled up the KissCam beginnings to their relationship, but none of that interests me.

Luna, on the other hand, does. She’s witty, sharp, and smart.

While not exactly Alexsei’s type, which leans toward sweet as sugar and submissive, she is interesting. I can almost guarantee she’s uninhibited and a whole lot of sexy fun.

“If that’s what you want, I’m sure you can have it,” Dani says in response to her. “Do you know how many guys in Chicago would jump at the chance to be with a girl like you?”

I agree with her best friend’s assessment. This is a woman who can get whatever she wants.

“I’ve been practicing abundance meditations every night and releasing my intentions to the universe, so I’m reasonably confident.”

I can’t decide if she’s being ironic or serious.

“Plus, I’m cute, and I make baked goods. Men should appreciate me.”

Cute is a modest understatement. Luna McNeill is a hot girl.

She has purple tips in her blonde hair, a sassy smile, and long eyelashes. I wonder if she has a tattoo. Like a cupcake somewhere only a lucky few have seen. That needs to be licked.

I lean a little closer to Luna as the crowd gives a collective cheer at something that happens on the ice, my phone going slack in my palm. I can’t hear what she’s saying now, if anything, which irritates me.
