“I got it, baby,” Anthony soothes, already scanning the tree for the best way to help. Within seconds he’s climbing, reaching out for the little bundle of fur.
My heart fucking beats for this man. How can he be so perfect?
The shaking baby doesn’t hiss at him or run scared, no, it actively walks closer to him, practically leaping into his outstretched hand. When Anthony gets down, cradling him to his chest, I can literally hear the cat purring like an engine.
“Oh, sweet baby,” I coo, coming up to pet his little head. “Where did you come from?”
The universal cat distribution system has struck again; I have to take this peanut home immediately. I’m worried Anthony might not think the same, but his next words only solidify my feelings for him.
“So… are we naming this one Branch?”
“Don’t be silly,” I tsk. “She’s clearly meant for the name Tree.”
He chuckles, leaning over to kiss my forehead. “You can tell she’s a girl?”
I shake my head. “Just a hunch.”
“Let’s see if the veterinary office down there is open,” he says, nodding down the street. “We’ll make sure she’s healthy and take her home.”
I have to kiss the hell out of him before we head off, letting him know just how amazing he is.
The vet is able to get us in right away, making sure this cute little fur baby doesn’t have a chip. It turns out she’s a year old, pretty malnourished but ultimately healthy. She’s actually spayed already, so she was likely abandoned, but after a few shots and a flea and tick bath, she’s all ready to go home.
I hope she’ll get along with Bush, but I know there are ways to safely introduce them if either one of them is too scared or too cautious. I can’t wait for them to be best friends.
When we get back to his place with our two cats and he starts getting them settled immediately, the last thing I think is; Milo Smoke sounds much better than Milo Cove.
I hope Anthony thinks so too.
