Jericho has been working overtime with his investigation but hasn't come up with anything more than he did months ago.

He warned me this could and most likely would happen, so now the only choice I feel I have is to let it all go.

I got the girl, so if I let it go and release the vendetta I have against her father, it might fix the problem.

But can I keep the secret? Can I live with myself for the rest of my life knowing that I planned to rain destruction on her family?

What if she ever found out one day?

It’s not impossible. If that happened, what would I do?

All those things clash around in my mind night and day like soldiers on a battlefield.

The battle continues now as I sit in the boardroom at Le Blanche Global for a very important meeting.

My father is at the head of the table, discussing plans for the next few months. Joining us are twenty of our most prominent investors.

Asher is across from me. If anyone will pick up on the fact that I'd rather be anywhere else but here, it will be him.

When the meeting ends, no one is more relieved than me. As everyone else files out, I head out, too, but my father stops me.

"Just a word." He waves me over.

"Sure."

Asher glances at me before he leaves. I suppose he'll want to talk later. I'll need to talk by then before I go crazy.

Father waits until the last investor leaves before he closes the door, then he walks back over to me with a contemplative expression on his face.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"You tell me. I've never seen you look so preoccupied. Has something happened?"

In his eyes, I see the worry of a concerned father. His ability to switch from business to displaying the emotions of a caring parent is one of the things I've always admired about him.

"Nothing has happened. But that's just the problem.”

"I take it you mean nothing has happened with Dominic?"

“Yes.”

Father swallows hard and stares back at me as if he's searching for the right words to tell me. "How is your marriage?"

The unexpected question throws me. It feels out of place in our conversation, but I don't have to think too hard about the answer. It's there in my heart.

"My marriage is everything I've ever dreamed it could be."

Father's face softens, and awe fills his eyes. "If that is the case, son, then it's more than what I could have ever wanted for you. I think it should stay that way."

His support sparks hope in my heart. "You think I should stay married to Luna?"

"I think you've already made that decision. I'm simply giving you the encouragement to follow your heart. The two of you seem incredibly happy together, so despite what we know about her father, I think you need to consider how you feel. Are you happy?"

"Yes. We both are."

"Happiness is something worth fighting for, Hunter. Your mother and I love each other to no end. We always wanted you to have the kind of marriage we have. Now you do." He pauses for a moment and rests a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I know Alexis hurt you deeply, but Luna seems to have healed you."

I'm desperate to follow his advice, but he's not mentioning the biggest obstacle. "Father, the truth could destroy us." My voice is sad and low.
