"That heartbeat is strong and healthy," Dr. Carlton states. “Let’s get a look at everything else.”

I nod, unable to speak, my throat constricted with emotion.

We watch as Dr. Carlton points out the tiny limbs, the head, and the body of our growing child.

When she finishes, she allows us some time together by ourselves with a picture of the scan.

“I can’t believe it, Hunter. I’m so happy.”

I squeeze Luna’s hand. “Me, too, Bellissima. I love you and our little baby."

“We love you, too,” she whispers, her voice trembling with elation.

“Come here.”

I pull her close to hold her against my heart.

My world seems different now, brighter and filled with endless possibilities.

We're a family. Luna, our baby, and me.

This is the next chapter of our lives.

The next day at work, I can hardly concentrate. I’m eager to get home to Luna, but it will be a while before I can leave.

Asher and I have back-to-back meetings for the rest of the day.

Business is booming as usual, and we’ve been doing well running the company.

I’m about to head to lunch when the door opens, and Asher walks into my office.

In his hands is a large envelope. On his face gleams a sadistic smile. One that tells me he’s up to something. Some dark shit that probably involves Priscilla.

He discovered she actually was cheating on him, and he’s been building a case against her ever since to try and get out of the marriage clause.

Thankfully, Father encouraged him to do so but requested more hardcore evidence than the picture he got of her kissing Carlos, her Latin lover.

That’s what Asher has been trying to gather over the last few months.

Looks like he got something today.

“What did you find?” I decide to jump straight in with the question.

“A sex tape.”

I shake my head. “No way.”

“Yes. And if that’s not enough, I got this.” He pulls a grainy picture from the envelope of a baby scan.

Having just received one of these myself, it throws me. “A baby scan picture?”

“Yes, my dear brother. Priscilla is pregnant. Obviously, it’s not mine. I never touched her because I hoped something like this would happen.”

“Jesus, what does this mean now?”

“I spoke with Father. The marriage contract has been terminated. But…” His smile welters.

“But what?”

“I still have to get married, as you know.”

“Indeed.”

“I have a year from today, but this time, I get to choose my bride.”

I smile, feeling better, and I hope the stars align for him the way they did for me when I met Luna.

Sometimes, the villain does get the girl, but he has to win her heart first and vow to protect her with his soul.
