Dressed in a blood-red sleeveless gown that flows down her body, my wife-to-be outdoes every woman in here—and this world.

Her elegant body in that dress is highlighted even more because her hair is gathered up on top of her head into a bun.

The sight of her steals my senses and a rush of something primal laces through my veins.

I’m an unashamedly acquisitive devil who’s used to taking things he wants, but knowing this woman is going to be my wife makes me feel like I conquered the ultimate prize.

I continue watching her, already feeling her soft lips on my mouth, her silky hair between my fingers and her smooth skin pressed up against mine.

At that moment I’m hit with yet another truth as I realize that no matter what I tell myself, nothing will eradicate that intense desire to make her mine.

“Well, well, brother,” Asher hums, resting his hand on my shoulder. “Looks like your table has made a most interesting turn. If I were you I’d stake my claim on her before others do, I’m just saying.”

He gestures to where Ryan is standing once more and I look only to find him gawking at Luna. He looks like a man who knows he was a complete idiot for not striking while the iron was hot.

Still, the thought occurs to me that he has more of a chance with her than I do, even if I’m going to be her husband.

I expect him to find Luna at some point tonight, and I’ll just have to try to be cool with it, although I know I won’t be.

Asher taps my shoulder again but I don’t look back at him because he’s right, and I hate that.

I look back to where Luna was and see that she’s found Emily. Paige is gone, probably to see my parents.

I make my way toward Luna.

She doesn’t see me until I’m nearly there. When she spots me I take some pleasure in witnessing the gleam that enters her eyes, but it dies just as soon as it appears.

The caution in her reaction is expected after what happened the last time we were together.

“Hi, Hunter.” Emily smiles, but I know she’s nervous of me.

“Hey, there,” I reply. I decided weeks ago that Emily seemed like she wouldn’t cause trouble so I tone down my usual hard exterior.

“Congratulations on your engagement.”

“Thank you.”

“I’ll see you both later.” Emily grins at us.

“Sure,” Luna says with a little wave.

Emily glances back at Luna again, then leaves.

When Luna looks at me the discomfort on her face is palpable. There’s also a dash of something else. Something I can’t name but feel. It adds to the undeniable spark between us.

“You look beautiful,” I tell her.

“Thanks. I tried my best.”

I raise my brows, wondering if that’s one of those weird comments people make when they know they’re good at something but try to downplay it. Then I realize she really has no idea just how beautiful she is, whether she’s wearing clothes or not.

“I prefer what you were wearing in my office the other week.” My lips spread into a mischievous smile.

“My nightshirt?”

“No, Bellissima, not that.”

“But I wasn’t wearing anyth—” She catches my meaning and her eyes snap wide. “Oh, that.”
