“Yeah, it’s nothing.” I laugh it off as I shake the feeling away.

As I slide into the car, something glimmering in the console catches my eye.

Reaching over, I pick it up.

A lighter. No, wait, there’s more than one; there’s like three. Does he smoke? I’ve never smelled smoke on him.

“Do you smoke?” I ask Dimitri as he slides behind the steering wheel.

“No, just like them. Call it a habit. I always had one on me so I could light my grandfather’s and father’s cigars when I was a kid. They’d give me five dollars when I’d do it.” He laughs.

“That’s sweet, but promise me when you become a father, you won’t let your children play with lighters. They’re so dangerous.”

He turns his head to look over his shoulder, winking at Donovan in the back seat, then back at me. He has a playful smile on his face.

“I promise when we have kids, I won’t let them play with anything that could potentially start a fire. Especially with a mother who fights them for a living.”

Why do I feel like putty in his hands right now?

“So, you think we’re having children one day?” I question him.

“Baby, I don’t think. I know.”

“I have to agree with him. I’m already envisioning at least four. Two boys and two girls. A boy who looks like each of us and two princesses who are the spitting image of their mother. Of course, the boys will be older, so they can protect their little sisters,” Donovan says with a huge smile on his face, as he leans forward between Dimitri and me.

Fuck me, now they have my ovaries screaming at me to rip my clothes off and let one of them do just that.

I fan myself, not even caring that they’re laughing. All I can think about is what kind of future I have in store for me with these two. I know it’s going to be fun.

Dimitri starts the car and pulls carefully away from the curb into traffic.

Fuck, I can’t wait until tonight.

Chapter twenty-two

Alexis

I’ve been drifting in and out of sleep since they brought me home earlier. All hopes of reading disappeared as soon as I got comfortable under the warmth of my blanket.

The sound of a phone ringing dances along the edges of my consciousness, pulling me from my dream.

My hand flies out, fumbling along the coffee table, searching for my phone. But when my fingers find it, I knock it to the floor as it continues to ring.

Fuck me!

Rolling over, I half hang off the couch as I reach for it. I have to claw my fingers at it a few times, inching it closer to me until I can pick it up. Just for it to start ringing again as soon as I do.

I don’t check to see who it is before sliding the icon up and accepting the call.

“Hello,” comes out groggily as I rub my palm against my sleep-heavy eyes.

“Alexis, so nice of you to finally answer.” His voice has me immediately sitting upright.

That voice. One I know. How the hell is he calling me? I blocked him. Pulling the phone away from my ear, I squint, taking in the number on the screen.

Fucking asshole!

He’s using a different number.
