“He’s actually really good with the kids. They love him. They know he would never judge them,” Ace said.

Kody arched a brow at him and said, “That’s the part you chose to focus on?”

“Oh. Did you want me to focus on the part where you said you’re in love with me?” Ace asked and batted his lashes at Kody.

“Yes,” he said and grabbed a handful of Ace’s hair to jerk his head back. “That is exactly what I wanted you to focus on.”

He brought his mouth down on Ace’s, tongue slipping past his lips. Ace’s deep groan set his body on fire while Ace’s hands grabbing his ass had him rolling his hips.

Rapid knocks on his front door in a pattern he knew all too well had him sitting back with a groan.

“Why does she always have the worst timing?”

Ace frowned at him. “Who?”

“Cora,” Kody said and got up and walked to the front door to let in his annoyance of a best friend.

Ace

The woman walking into the living room with Kody was vaguely familiar. She had shoulder-length blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. She was wearing black pants and a cropped leather-jacket over a white top. She looked hot and from the confidence radiating off of her, she knew it, too.

“Well, well. If it isn’t Mr. What-if-it’s-a-heart-attack,” she said, eyes gleaming with amusement.

Ace pressed his lips together, his face heating up as he stood.

“In my defense,” he said, gaze landing on Kody who was watching him with raised brows. “It was his fault.”

Kody spluttered while Cora laughed.

“I’m Ace,” he said and stepped closer to shake her hand.

“Cora,” she said.

He held back a smile when she squeezed his hand hard. She was strong, he’d give her that. She was a firefighter so he assumed she would have to be to do her job well.

“So, you’re the new boyfriend?”

“I am.”

Cora ran her eyes over him, then met his gaze.

“If you plan on sticking around, you should know,” Cora said and wrapped an arm around Kody’s shoulders, “That we’re a package deal.”

Ace nearly choked on his spit.

“Uh… I know I’m probably bi, but I’m not into sharing.”

He’d never really seen the allure of that but just the thought of anyone else with Kody had him shuddering.

Kody pressed his lips together and shared a look with Cora and within seconds, they both burst out laughing.

Ace crossed his arms, brows snapping together as he squinted at them.

“Why do I feel like the butt of a joke?”

Kody shook his head, laughter still spilling from his lips as he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Ace’s waist. His eyes were twinkling as he tilted his head back to meet Ace’s gaze.

“You’re adorable,” Kody said, grinning up at him.
