“We have to do something.”

Ace nodded. As much as he wanted to save those girls, he had to admit that he wanted to do it for Kody more than anything.

“We need to talk to Luna.”

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Kody

HE HADN’T been sure what to expect when Ace said they needed to see Luna, but two of his biker brothers showing up at the hospital was not it. He gave the two of them a cautious glance as they dismounted their bikes. While Ace had told him that they were good guys, he didn’t know them. He trusted Ace, though, which meant he would trust them, too.

“You must be Kody,” one of them said.

He shook the man’s hand, gaze running over his face. He had gray eyes and blond hair and a calming presence. The man next to him had dark eyes but such a friendly look on his face that he instantly felt more at ease. He was pretty sure he’d seen them both before. Not surprising, though, considering most of them had been present at Ace’s accident.

“I’m Chris,” he said and motioned at the man next to him. “And this is my partner, Diesel.”

Diesel gave Kody a nod which he returned.

“Shall we?” Diesel said.

They headed inside and he started to feel his hands get more and more clammy the further they went. He wasn’t as nervous about whether Chris and Diesel could get Luna to talk. He was more worried about what Luna had to say. The shit she’d been through. He hoped making her relieve that hell could get them closer to catching the assholes who’d hurt her and those other girls.

A warm hand on the small of his back had him glancing up at Ace, a smile spreading on his lips when he found Ace watching him with a soft expression on his face.

He didn’t know how they expected to get past the cop watching over Luna until they turned down the hallway and Mia was the one standing there. Had they made that happen?

“Officer,” Chris said.

“Detective,” Mia said, making Chris shake his head.

“How many times do I have to tell you to call me Chris?”

Mia arched a brow at him and answered, “As many times as it takes you to realize that I never will.”

Kody leaned close to Ace and whispered, “He’s a cop?”

“Used to be.”

“Huh.”

He cocked his head to the side as he watched the man closely. Now that he knew, it actually wasn’t that hard to tell. He’d been around enough cops to see the signs. A cop was just the last thing he’d expected an outlaw biker to be.

Mia raised a brow at Chris and said, “Just remember?”

“We were never here,” Chris finished for her.

“Exactly. I don’t care who she talks to, as long as she talks,” Mia said and opened the door. She stuck her head inside. “Luna? You’ve got some visitors.”

They followed Chris and Diesel and the second he stepped into the room, his gaze landed on Mia who was in her bed, cradling Eve to her chest as if she was afraid they were there to take her baby from her.

“It’s okay, Luna,” he said and hurried to her side. “They’re here to help.”

“Help how?” Luna asked, her voice low and tinged with fear.

Chris stepped closer, grabbing a chair to sit down. “Hi, Luna. My name is Chris. I used to be a detective. I’m here to see if we can help find those other girls so we can bring them home.”

He could feel Luna relax but it only lasted for a second before she grabbed a hold of Kody’s arm, nails digging in and making him wince.
