“I think… knowing about all the bad shit I do, seeing the things I’ve seen, it changes you. It makes you more cynical and it’s like it pulls a blanket of darkness over you. I don’t want that for her.” He took Kody’s hands in his and met his gaze. “You’ve already seen your fair share and you’re directly involved now. Besides, I trust you. That’s why I told you.”

Kody nodded, a thoughtful look in his eyes.

“I trust you, too.”

He took Kody’s hand and led him up the stairs and down the hall to his bedroom.

“So, this is your childhood bedroom?” Kody asked, looking around.

“Pretty sure it’s just my bedroom.”

Kody sat down on the bed and his expression went from curious to sad in an instant.

“I wonder what Luna’s childhood bedroom looked like. If she even had one.”

Ace sat down on the bed next to him and took his hand in his.

“We can’t do anything about Luna’s childhood, but we can do something about Eve’s, and I promise we will.”

Kody looked at him, tears shining in his eyes as he nodded.

“We’ll find them, right?”

Ace nodded. “We will.”

“Thank you,” Kody said and rested his head against Ace’s shoulder.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Ace

THEY WERE out the door the second the call came in, Kody quickly getting behind him on the bike. He may have broken a few speed limits on the way, but he figured Kody didn’t mind. Not when it was about Luna and Eve.

He pulled into the courtyard in front of the clubhouse and once they dismounted and had their helmets off, he grabbed Kody’s hand to drag him inside. The second they were through the door, he heard chattering voices and steered toward them.

They walked into the meeting room filled with his brothers. Ares and Diesel were standing at the head of the long table that took up most of the room. Most of the others were sitting around it except Chris who walked over when he saw them.

“You found them?” he asked Chris.

Chris eyed Kody for a moment before he answered.

“We did.”

“Where are they?” Kody asked, the hope and desperation in his voice making Ace’s heart squeeze almost painfully.

Chris pressed his lips together, which wasn’t the best sign. Chris looked over his shoulder at Ares and Diesel and when he received a nod from them both, then turned back to Ace and Kody.

“They’re being held in an apartment close by. Luna didn’t leave of her own volition. She was forced,” Chris said.

Kody’s grip on Ace’s hand tightened.

“I knew it,” Kody said under his breath.

Chris nodded, then looked at Ace and said, “I caught some footage of a guy forcing Luna into the back of a van close to the hospital. Auggie did his thing, so we know where they’re holding Luna and Eve, but considering we just liberated all their other girls, I think it’s safe to assume that they’re extra vigilant right now. Which makes this rescue mission a whole lot harder for us.”

“They might be expecting us,” Ace said with a nod.

“Where does that leave us?” Kody asked.
