“It leaves us kinda screwed,” Diesel said as he walked up next to Chris. “But we’ll get the girls out.”

“We’re gonna need to make some plans,” Chris said, looking from Ace to Kody with his brow cocked.

Ace sighed, then turned to Kody and said, “Sorry, Babe. You’re gonna have to wait outside.”

“What? Why?”

“Church is for patched members only,” Chris said and rolled his eyes at Diesel’s smirk. Ace held back a snort. Diesel had stood in the way of Chris getting patched in for quite a while so Chris’ pride in now being patched in always made Diesel tease him.

“But…” Kody trailed off, looking up at Ace with a plea in his eyes.

“It’ll be alright,” Ace said and rubbed his hands up and down Kody’s arms. “Come on.”

He led Kody into the living room and spotted Jace and Kaz by the bar. Kaz was sneakily trying to reach for a bottle of whiskey but got his hand slapped away by Jace who didn’t as much as look up from what he was doing.

“Ouch. I thought you weren’t allowed to hit your kids anymore?” Kaz exclaimed.

Jace leveled him with a stern look. “You are if they’re underage and trying to steal your best booze.”

“That’s your best?” Kaz asked with a huff.

Ace’s lips quirked. Despite the shit Kaz had been through, no one had managed to beat the snark out of him.

“Hey, would you guys mind if Kody stayed out here with you while we’re at church?” he asked them.

Jace lit up with a bright smile and said, “Of course not. Have a seat, Kody.”

Kody gave him a tight smile and lifted himself onto a barstool. Ace turned the chair around to face him and stepped between Kody’s thighs, hands cupping his cheeks.

“I’ll see you in a bit,” he said and brushed a kiss to Kody’s lips before turning and walking back to the others.

Kody

Watching Kaz and Jace’s interactions was just fun enough to keep his mind occupied while he waited. It was quite clear that Kaz loved his dad though he did seem a bit insecure about receiving the man’s love. Jace’s love was very open and honest, though. He didn’t hide how much he loved that boy at all.

“The Kings will be joining us for the summer party,” Jace said, hanging the glass he’d just cleaned on the rack behind the bar.

Kaz straightened immediately.

“You’d better be on your best behavior,” Jace warned, pointing a finger at Kaz.

“What? I’m always on my best behavior,” Kaz sassed back at him.

“If that’s your best behavior,” Jace said and took a deep breath, “Then we’re all doomed.”

Kaz mock-gasped and put a hand over his heart, then pretended to slide off his barstool.

Jace snapped his tea towel at Kaz and said, “I mean it. Saint and Nash are bringing their kids and Juno’s bringing his son, and I know you can be a little shit to other kids.”

“I’m not a kid,” Kaz grumbled and sat back up.

“Just because your dad bought you a bike and lets you drive it because he’s trying to score some easy brownie points doesn’t mean that you’re an adult,” Jace said. He turned to Kody. “Back me up here. Please?”

Kaz snorted and before Kody could get a word out, he said, “You’re really asking the guy dating Ace of all people?”

“I… he’s got me there,” Kody said with an apologetic shrug.

Jace shook his head, then said, “Little shit,” under his breath.
