“Right...so, who is it?”

“Fitzwilliam Darcy,” Charlie said, a little guiltily.

She lifted Will up, and I took him from her arms, holding the special little newborn close to my chest. He carried a sweetness about him that made me want to hold him forever, as if he’d brought a little bit of heaven with him to this hospital room.

“He’s perfect,” I said, letting his delicate fingers wrap around one of mine. “And I’m totally calling him Darcy.”

Liam laughed. “Fine.”

“Are you mad?” Charlie asked.

He reached over and kissed her. “Nope.”

Rhett came to stand behind me, looking down at Will’s face over my shoulder. “Okay, I admit that he looks pretty perfect.”

“Do you want one of your own?” I asked.

“You’re relentless.”

“I believe they call thatin love, but close enough.”

“Yes, Beth, I want one of my own. But first—”

“Yes, first the Maui wedding.” I looked up. “Put it on your mental calendars for next summer, okay? I have a feeling I’ll wear him down by then.”

Rhett kissed my cheek. “Don’t worry. I don’t need any convincing.”

Which I knew. We wanted to get married. We talked about it a lot. But for the sake of Rhett’s poor nerves, we were waiting a year so he would feel confident that a life as his partner was something I was willing to commit to. He wanted me to experience the spotlight long enough toknowI could do it forever. And me living with his sister every time we were down in LA was going to be a fun experience I didn’t want to give up right away, either.

But he didn’t need to worry. I was already in it forever.

I was already his.
